I remember how surreal it seemed when I heard about it ending that shit like that was still around. It sounded like something that should have been gone by the 1950s, and instead it was still around in the fucking 1990s. I'm assuming that's why so many people are thinking that it's something that happened a long time ago - because the idea of a racial ethno-state seems like something straight out of the 1800s, not something whose demise is younger than the internet. What does this have to do with the topic? Negotiations to end Apartheid started in 1989, so a lot of Apartheid restrictions were lifted during that time. In 1994 it ended. That's roughly 20 years.
