It has some dreadful elements which I'm sure we all know by now, unnecessary plotlines, and poor characters (Finn in particularly was disappointingly used after he was one of the best things about TFA). However, this is coupled with a fairly solid main storyline, a good pair of main protagonists (Kylo and Rey), and the strongest thematic elements in a Star Wars film since the original trilogy. I loved the EU as much as the next fan but I'm okay with seeing a different story put to cinema. I want the standards to be raised back to what they were in the original trilogy, but I feel like that's a bit unrealistic.
