The principle at this California school says yes and that female students should be able to express themselves by wearing slutty clothes. The worse part? Parents applaud her just as long as the boys aren't getting distracted and are getting good grades:

It's a step in the right direction, and when everybody is literally wearing the same thing, you'll have less things to worry about.

That's just not true. The snobby kids will always find some way to "other" someone they want to ostracize.

Uniforms strip people of their individuality and are really just a scam between the schools and uniform suppliers.

Does it really? Do you have sources to prove that bullying isn't a problem and that the uniforms aren't a financial burden on poorer families?

Also, Asian countries with "work-to-death" cultures aren't exactly a good model to emulate.

Bullying happens everywhere, but it can be lessened by more uniformity.

I asked my principle back when i was i school what the point of a uniform was. She said it was because all the students represent the school, and its also so that teachers can tell at a distance who is their student or not.
Both reasons sound dumb, but i agree that uniform > no uniform
I always suspected uniforms would lower bullying but never bothered to check if there were any stats

Competition does do that, but you need to educate children that quitting life isn't the solution.

Disciplining students with uniforms is a good thing. It lets them know that they are in a place out of the ordinary, where certain behavior is expected.

I had uniforms in middle school and bullying was still rampant regardless of the uniform.

I remember some kid getting made fun of because his mom took him to one of those Clothes 4 less places to get his uniform. I stayed quiet because i went to the same place

You cannot compare North American and Korean children. Societies are too different to attribute a difference to uniforms.

Uniforms sound like a great idea but that's not reality.

Until they make being an asshole illegal, we're doing the people of the future a serious disservice by trying to prevent them from being prepared for it.

Uniforms are a good idea, it's these morons that think teenage boys aren't going to be distracted by a breeze going in the wrong direction as long as the girls are wearing burlap sacks.
It also has the faulty assumption that girls aren't sexually aware at the same age-I remember from high school that no matter what they were wearing, you still both had the same thoughts and got your hands under said uniforms at the first opportunity-people forget too easily what they were like as kids and end up looking for an excuse because their kid is somehow better or different-"Those girls were being blatantly female with intent to destroy society! Cover them up before the poor boys get their 6th or 7th completely random boner of the day!" *gasps and pearl clutching*

I'm not big on uniforms, but they still need to be wearing appropriate clothing. Sagging, see through clothes, and clothes with illegal drugs and weapons were amongst the thing against our dress code that I definitely did not mind being enforced.

The uniform isn't about bullying. It's about discipline. Uniforms can be provided. Uniforms also help a lot with safety. They don't put military in uniforms just to look cool.

This.

But it did help with bullying in my city though, a lot actually and I'm from like a middle to lower class black city. Bullying will always be there, but at least they couldn't do it for clothes. Plus it saved money because I only wore like 2 pair of pants and like 3 shirts lol. In middle school moms didn't wanna buy a lot of different clothes.

But yeah as someone said uniforms are there for discipline more so than to stop bullying, it just does that to.
