yet movies based on comics are the ones that breaks the box office? The Walking Dead, Marvel movies are some examples. Ok fine...maybe the only few examples.

Not a far stretch to say 90% of people that go to see Infinity War for example, have actually read the Infinity War comics. The same for TWD. I hardly knew of any fans who even read Robert Kirkman's comics when they were so ardent about the TV show.
Meanwhile, it's probably the inverse for people who to see book-based movies like Harry Potter or Twilight. Most of them have read the books.

Why do people hate comics so much?

And without going digital it's a constant practice to go in for new issues. Plus while I put the artwork high enough to justify the price a lot of people don't want to pay ~3.99 for 24 pages (of which a good 5-6 are adds/credits).

you can just buy the compiled volumes or larger compilation packs of several volumes at around the same price you'd pay for a normal book. (speaking for TWD, Idk about Marvel/DC anymore)

That's what I do most the time. I'm also almost exclusively digital now except series I really want print of like the 2018 Rogue and Gambit series.

I'm just saying it's largely a contributor especially in the past.
