Its controlled by just a handful corporations. Because of this monopoly type power it essentially shuts down free speech. More conversations happen through technology than real life. Our society has changed significantly from what it was 30 years ago and legislation hasnt kept up with the sprint of technology. Some people are calling that social media companies be treated like public utilities because of their monopoly like nature.
