And we know a lot more about the Korean War now
It wouldn't be hard to say a lot more about the Korean War while maintaining allegory to Vietnam and modern wars even (since anti-war messages generally stay the same)

For example they could get actual Koreans to portray the Koreans on the show, instead of having every language BUT Korean spoken correctly on TV. They could film in locations that actually resemble Korea, instead of the bare bone dry hills of California

Being a black comedy/dramedy, obviously some aspects of the show need to remain light and humorous.... but I think with today's resources and good minds a remake would be excellent

the only trouble is that Alan Alda's portrayal of Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce is so... DEFINING of the show, even today... who could possibly take up the mantle

Hawkeye would need re-writing anyway. A borderline alcoholic womanizer as the good guy wouldn't fly too well in today's political climate. I doubt Kinger would go over well either with his section 8 tactics.

We've had enough MASH, already.

I felt that Scrubs was moderately influenced by MASH.

But no. There doesn't need to be a remake, reimagining, sequel, prequel, web comic, fan fict, phone app, or anything like that.

Just rewatch the series if you need a MASH fix.

Um
House?
Sherlock Holmes?

As bad as Hawkeye ever got, he was never quite in the "disrespecting the sanctity of women" department, only in the "perpetually horny" area
and it's not like the show isn't cognizant of this fact - they turn it around on the character, and by the end of the show all the nurses are fed up with his constant advances

I don't think Hollywood is that desperate, yet.

It's just a shame Combat Hospital never caught on.

Yeah you know the more I think about it, it doesn't even need to be MASH

Another medical drama about Vietnam or Korea, in the same vein, would do just fine
I think MASH, even through its 11 year run, left plenty on the table
Especially today, when we're such an international world, we could have more focus on the actual effect we had on the indig pops

the thing is
none of the characters on the show, except the ones that are actually deplorable (BURNS), really bat an eye at it anyway

In fact, for the time, I'd say the show was actually quite... nice about the whole thing

You know, beyond the whole "crossdressing is a reason for being Section 8"

Except, you know, IRL they definitely used the Section 8 stuff to run suspected homosexuals out of the military soooooo it's not like they'd be inaccurate or anything

it could be done

Hawkeye would be fine. Klinger would not.

BJ is essentially a relic of the old-morality patriarchy or something, assuming the 'replacement' guys even show up.

And then there's Spearchucker Jones, who the original series lol noped on way back in 1973. There's a whole crate of canned worms, for any given remake: an anachronism with a grossly "racist" nickname, who would be pretty much obligatory under modern inclusion ideals

I was thinking TC was suggesting a new medical/miltary/comedy/drama along the lines of MASH but set in modern day in a modern conflict area.

There might be value in that.

I dont remember the characters name, but there was a guy that wore a dress in an attempt to get discharged for being crazy.

I dont think that would fly in todays standards.

We all think "because he's crazy"
but that was really just a "Getting crap past the radar"

In reality it was a reference to how section 8 discharges were used to target homosexuals or suspected ones... which... how could that not have relevance today?

I'm not sure House would fly today either, but I guess it depends on how updated he is for the times, and even then, someone would cry sexual harassment at his non-stop passes at Margaret.

Trapper would raise an eyebrow or 2 as well. He was rather open in his infidelity.

I'd wager 99% of shows could be remade. This 'X couldn't be made today!" is absolutely bullshit. We literally have Family Guy and American Dad as primetime Sunday viewing. 2 Broke Girls ran for like 6 years. The worst part is that people have been getting riled up about TV since way before, and the difference was that back then they actually went out and protested, instead of just blogging about it. Married With Children is a particularly notable example, and that was the beginning of the 90's.
