Yeah (Buys $400 console) IDK how anyone (spends $250 on yearly online subscription over 5 years) can afford (Spends $150 on an elite controller) PC gaming (Spends $60 on every new game). It just seems (Spends $1200 on HDR TV) really expensive (Spends $1000 on TTL gimmick) for no (Spends $200 on carrying accessories and extra charging dock for Switch) reason.

Also, after buying my pc, I get to buy games for half the cost of the console versions. It adds up over time.

The real answer is that they enjoy gaming more than they enjoy other hobbies that you probably enjoy, and make sacrifices/compensations to their disposal income to reflect that.

Like a lot of the gamers I know think nothing of spending $500 on a graphics card but scoff at jeans that cost more than $30. Others hate going out to bars/restaurants unless the food is under $15.

Also this. This would only be for a new top of the line model, which can range from $500 - $1000. Most people buy the next version or two down which ranges from $150 - $300

People with decent jobs can afford to pay more up front for things which saves in the long run. Like PC gaming, LED bulbs, better brands of car, etc.

First entry is always expensive TC but once you get a nice build, it becomes cheaper in the long run when you decide to upgrade later down the road and plus games can be had for very cheap when they go on sale.

real answer: if you are a kid you save up whatever cash you can from summer jobs, birthdays, etc. if you are an adult, you partition an amount of money to spend based on your income. then you build a PC (or buy a laptop I guess) within your budget, and then you pretty much skimp on everything else.

when you buy games it's all from steam sales, huge sales on sites you see on reddit, sketchy key trading sites, and honestly a lot of ppl try and pirate games (it's an actual issue on PC). same goes for mice (find an amazon sale or newegg sale or w/e), just get whatever cheap keyboard you can, cheap monitor, set the PC up on a fuckin milk crate in your bedroom & you're ready to rock.

what you will notice when you get into PC gaming is that PC gamers are notoriously cheap. pretty much every single gaming decision they make is like 90% based on some kind of cost analysis.

you might think everyone has $500 graphics cards but that is really not the case, it's just the minority of nerds online flexing about how powerful their rig is. most people have a tight budget and google "can this PC run GTAV" and that's their basis. this is honestly why sales and DRM and all that are such hot button issues for them but console gamers dont care so much

True. I opted for a 1060 instead of the 70 or 80. Good performance, but it was only like 200 or so

Good GPUs can be a lot less than $500.

PC gaming is more expensive because it's better. You get what you pay for.

pc gaming is about as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it. do you want to max your games at 4k? sure buy a $500 card. or if youre happy with 1080p then buy a $100 graphics card and still be able to run most stuff well. do you want to by $60 games? sure go nuts. or do you want to wait it out and get that same game for $10 on sale a few months later?

PC gaming is as expensive as you want it to be, and reasonable PC gaming is nowhere near as expensive as non-PC gamers make it out to be. If you can, and want to spend $3000 on a beastly rig and setup, you can. If you can only afford $800, there's still options.

Hell, it's a LOT cheaper than most other pasttimes, like drinking heavily, working on old cars, or just about anything else that takes a significant investment.

Yeah, a $100 GPU wont run most games that came out after like 2014. Unless you find a 970 on craigslist or something.

It's not literally $100 but Newegg has got RX 560s (Crappy but VR-capable card) listed for $120, that's not that much of a difference.
