I finished X1 today in Legacy Collection. Been a while since I've played it. TBH MMX is probably the only GREAT MMX game. The rest are ok. I liked X4 as a kid tho

Only good ones were 1-4. After that dropped off hard.

For me, it just has too much backtracking for 100% completion. Or at least, it just feels more pronounced due to some of it relying on Ride Armors. Like, slowly trudging around in those things isn't what I play MMX games for.

Also aside from Zero's theme I just don't care for the soundtrack, either version.

X1 - 4 were all pretty great. 5 and 6 were really hit or miss. 7 was awful. 8 was pretty good, but not as good as 1 - 4.

I always started with the hornet

The x collection on GC used the ps1 version of x3 so the cutscenes added to it for me

X1-3 are all solid, although X3 is the weakest of the three.

X4 used to be my favorite, but revisiting it recently I was slightly disappointed by how easy it is and how cringey the story gets at times.

X5 and X6 are a mixed bag. There are some real bad mechanics in both, but also a lot to enjoy if you can somehow ignore the low points.

X7... woof.

X8 really made an effort to shake up the gameplay but again with the story cringe... it's painful. And the graphics are an eyesore.

Recommendation: play X1-4.

X1 & X2 are great. X3 is ok enough. X4 just has a weird charm for me. X5 should have been the end of it. X6 has terrible design that renders it unplayable at points. X7 might have been fine without those 3D segments. X8 tries, but that horse was just beaten too far at that point to even salvage what good it did. Command Mission is actually a pretty fun spinoff that I wish had more.

The Zero series is overall the best Mega Man series out of the bunch. 1-3 were amazing, & while 4 was starting to lose the edge, the fact that the series knew when to quit leaves it on top.

It's a shame ZX was never continued. 1 & 2 are fun games each with their own thing, & the plot actually had me interested in where it was going. Just going back to ZX1, & I realized how much seemingly insignificant foreshadowing was actually going on there.
