Therion. There are purple treasure chests in pretty much every overworld and dungeon screen in the game that only he can open. These chests usually have pretty decent stuff in them.

I would argue Tressa is better if you want good items. Therions chests are decent yes but not I cant miss this if I want to win at the game good. Equipment in this game is king, moreso than having levels (besides for path actions). Tressa is by far the best money-maker so having her in the party 24/7 means you will be better geared

i'd say having the right skill sets matters most. i never bought any gear, just items. tressa was my least used character until i unlocked runemaster and most of the game was pretty easy. i stole stuff when i could, but that was it really.

Tressa or Therion are good choices but you will be stuck with that character until their story is finished (cant be removed from the party)

Therion because stealing and purple chests
Tressa because passive money finding and the Merchant subclass is overall useful.

Yeah they are forced as your protagonist until you finish their chapter 4. Its a very large portion of the game if you dont race to the end with 4 characters and then do the other half after that. Even then thats still almost half the game if you go that way

The game pelts money at your face, so Tressa is redundant in that regard. I was constantly upgrading equipment, and literally never ran out of money. I was also frequently using Therion to steal better equipment than what was available from any shop at the time.

Sure you can steal things but usually you find better gear in shops from what Ive found so far. Besides the 3% steals that you have to save scum to get.

I say gear matters because thats where a very large part of character stats comes from

I finished chapter 4 with my starting character, chapter 2 with another character and only chapter 1 with the remaining 6. Therefore, it's not the case that the starting must be in my party for 99% of the game.

If something could potentially happen depending on how you play through the game, then saying that it must happen is not true.

Youre not really making a point here

99% of people will either play through all 8 stories at the same time or do 4/4

Yes you have the option to full clear one character at the time but why? It just makes the game drag on and you actually have to grind at that point

gear does matter yeah. i do think there was gear i could buy that was better in some ways but didn't match my build. example i stacked mad speed on therion, and i don't remember anything buyable having more speed than what i found or stole.

Play the demo. It's free for 3 hours and the save file carries over. If it doesn't seem interesting in that time frame, then return the game and get your money back.

nah fam.

he basically gets a free double attack skill when you get the one that restores sp. good for knife breaks at the start and not using bp. and he can share sp with other members which can be useful. his final skill is a beast with stacked speed and used at the right time, with break 9999 dmg. then there's armor corrosive and reducing enemy physical attack strength. dude is a beast.

Yes it is. If you actually know how to play the game and keep your gear relatively up to date, you can go to areas 10+ your level with ease. Not to mention going to 20+ areas is even doable.

I know I'm too late, but as someone who picked Olberic first, I would say Cyrus, Therion, and Tressa are the most convenient first characters.

Tressa for her ability to collect money from enemies, buy items from npcs, find money at periodic intervals while traveling, and being a generally well balanced character.

Therion for his ability to unlock the locked purple chests and steal items from npcs and enemies.

Cyrus for his ability to scrutinize npcs for hidden items and information, his passive ability to reveal enemy weaknesses, and his powerful multi-hit elemental spells.

I still like Olberic though.

The best overall unit is probably Alfyn

By far the best healer, has a concoct ability in which he can restore HP, SP, BP and cure status ailments to the whole party

Has a skill in which he can cure any unit of status ailments and make them immune to them for 2 turns, can also revive

Strong as hell too. He strongly outclasses Ophilia (whose only advantage over Alfyn is that she can revive the whole party, but even then that skill is crap because it only leaves them with 1 HP, at least at lvl 1 boost. Though she at least has a support skill called Saving Grace which allows her to be healed above her maximum HP)

Ophelia has the second highest E. Atk in the game. It's extremely misleading to say Alfyn outclasses her.

Concoct also does shit damage and all the herbs except Noxroot and Essence of Grape are monster drop/steal only so you need to farm then.
