I 2nd Gentleman's Jack. It's only slightly more expensive than normal Jack and it does the job without making you feel like you over paid for quality.

I've never been a huge rum fan if I'm honest.

I mean mixing it with like a coke is fine, but I'm not going for that most of the time.

Really good tequila goes down like water and can be drank straight without anything to wash it with.

Don Pedro is extremely top notch.

Gentleman's Jack. If you haven't had it....it's not that much better than Regular Jack, but a $22.50 bottle of Jack (regular) beats the hell out of anything that comes in a Half Gall lol (GJ goes for about $30)

Jim Bean makes some really good top shelf stuff, but I don't know what to recommend you as I have only tasted from friend's bottles and have never purchased a bottle for myself to myself to experiment with.

I think there's a bottle of Jack that goes a grade above Gentleman's called Single Barrel, which goes for about $45 a bottle here in Oregon. I've only had it once, it was good, but it went down to easy for how much it cost lol

I might give this a try.

I was doing the thing where I liked Johnny Walker when I tried that drink then never actually went and tried others, now I'm making sure to get something different everytime to get an idea on what I do or don't like more than just one drink. >_>

Or pay $10 and get a bottle of quality single malt scotch

Good idea, my stomach didn't care for Canadian whiskey but Kentucky always set well with me at the end of the night. I always experimented and got burned. Now I only drink what I know I will enjoy. Jack and a beer back is high up on that list. So are Long Island Ice Teas. The best bartenders get a $10 tip when they make my ice tea perfectly.

Dalmore 12 is a good cheap everyday drinker.
Lagavulin 16 is still the standard bearer.

If you want something more decadent, Compass Box makes amazing blends. Flaming Heart being tops for me if you can find it, but I think it is all drank up or locked away at this point.

One more thing, my stomach is sold on Jack, but Jim Bean makes high quality bottles too that range from $30-$50. When you're at the liquor store, ask the cashier the difference between Gentleman's Jack and other high quality Jim Bean bottles. I gaurantee you that store owner (or clerk) probably knows more about they quality of their bottles than we do on CE, that should ensure you are happy with your purchase.

Beep beps to you :)

I went with the Gentleman's Jack for right now. Trying a glass right now. I'm still thinking I liked Johnny Walker Red so far the best out of the four or so drinks like this I tried in this price range. I haven't disliked anything though.

If you like Gentleman's Jack, try this. It's the step above and tastes even smoother, for only $15 more.

I'm still trying to get a taste for bourbon. All the ones I've tried have had one thing about them I don't like. Though I've only tried the cheap go to brands. I did like Old Forester well enough.

For scotch, I suggest McClellands Islay scotch. If you've ever wanted to be like Ron Swanson but didn't want to drop $100 on a bottle of Lagavulin then this is the $25 alternative. There's a Highland variety as well but personally I'm not a fan.

I really like Bulleit. And Jim Beam Devils Cut.

Actually I forgot about Bulleit. Had that in a couple mixed drinks and really liked it.
