So many good games/shows/books with good characters wasted on such a bland, unimaginative (hehe), basic setting with the most boring aesthetic possible. With bland, unimaginitive lore/world building to boot.

I pretty much instantly remove 2 points from any media that uses it. Not just because I hate it and am biased against it, but also because its so oversaturated in every market to begin with.

Give me a nice futuristic, sci fi, cyberpunk, or even modern setting that has actual technology and Im good.

Medieval mud huts castles sword and board basic magic and dragons just pisses me off.

I don't despise it, but I'm not a huge fan of the fantasy genre either.

I only really like it when they're mixed with another genre to some degree, like many of the Final Fantasies.

Straight fantasy has to do some really cool shit to hold my attention.

Yeah, when its mixed with something else that takes it out of that super generic setting, I can tolerate it much more. Otherwise Im just like uggggh. >_>

Nuh-nah, nuh-nah

Also I sorta agree with this statement. It's why I have a hard time enjoying Elder Scrolls games and why I think Fable is garbo.

I don't really see it as generic because you could say the same about literally every setting that isn't some sort of hybrid or completely out-there.

There are only so many settings you can have.

I'm pretty sure the only real argument you have is the oversaturation.
