I literally couldn't make myself eat whatever's needed to get that big...

It's as simple as not bringing home junk food. The family needs to stop buying **** and start buying veggies.

My 600 lb life? The doctor always tells the family to stop enabling the fat person. It is up to the 600 lb person if they want to continue eating 10,000 calories a day or start making some changes.

I honestly find it hard to believe that cases that bad are a result of poor diet alone. There's got to be genetic (or non-genetic disease) factors at work too. Not saying that poor diet / lack of exercise isnt' a factor at all, but come on, surely that can't account for the whole result...

Maybe they suffer from an addiction, but at the end of the day, your diet is always a choice.

I've suffered a lot of mental problems in my life, and even then, I never allowed to stuff myself with so much junk food...

Everybodys different. Most people like that either have a legitimate genetic issue or theyve literally made no attempt to lose weight in their life, which especially nowadays isnt really common.

Further, (and i didnt watch the vid so this might not apply to these people) not every fat person eats like a stereotype. Arguably none of them do. Most dont eat any differently than your average person.

But they dont exercise enough, if at all, and thats where the problem typically lies. Diets are easy to fix, especially if the person has the capacity and patience to cook for themselves. Exercise habits are a hell of a lot harder to deal with.

TL;DR its less put down the fork more take the stairs.

Maybe 5-10% of all people have a legitimate medical issue that causes them to gain excessive weight. For the overwhelming majority, body size and metabolism are determined by diet and activity level.. and nothing else.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's largely a mental issue. It's the same thing with people that have poor personal hygiene. You should want to take care of yourself. If you don't, maybe there's depression or other underlying issues and you turn to food or drugs to cope.

This. That show is all on excuses, I also remember one episode where the fat person blamed her family for going out and buying her food and not getting her healthy stuff despite wanting the bad stuff.

OK but ultimately you won't get overweight if you don't overeat. No matter your genetics.

Maybe your parents overfed you growing up (abusive in many cases) or you were never educated about food. It might not be entirely your fault you are overweight. But it is your responsibility.

Genetics/poor education/whatever doesn't excuse being fat, it only explains why it happened in the first place

There was one guy who was like 600lbs and also addicted to painkillers. He kept faking injures to get more painkillers. At the end of the episode the doctor had made it so that he can't get painkillers in that area anymore and he started having a panic attack.

Nothing saying you cant eat several pizzas in one sitting. Its when you do so regularly and then burn zero of the calories you consumed.

And im not surprised with guy 2. Looks fucking disgusting. Good, healthy food doesnt need to be garbage like that. Arguably that isnt even healthy at all. A plate of probably unseasoned green beans isnt going to do much for you nutritionally and what it does do is going to be a cost of your sanity.

Take same green beans (hopefully bought fresh, if not drain and rinse), toss with a tiny dab of butter and olive oil (arguably dont need the butter, but use lightly and you get the best of both worlds), season generously with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Infinitely tastier and still just healthy.

Pair it with some chicken thigh and carrots done same way, good stuff.

Something that needs to be noted is that it isnt obvious to everyone that food = energy and that you should eat and behave according to the energy you need and the energy you consumed, and that this energy also needs to be balanced and structured with your bodies nutritional needs.

This is how people get fat even when they arent packing away 2 large double pepperonis every few days.

This is also what further complicates losing weight and keeping it lost.

And thats without getting into how each persons body is going to require a different approach to all 3 areas.

The idea that being fat is inexcusable doesnt help matters. Not to say "fat acceptance" is okay either, but obesity pretty much always comes with mental side effects. Depression, low self esteem, etc. These things exacerbate the obesity issue, and negative reinforcement does >not < help those also suffering from these issues on top of their weight problem.

Sure its a responsibility. But treating someone like their subhuman is just you being a shitty person to someone that doesnt deserve it. If you wanna fat shame join the fan base that keeps these TLC shows alive and laugh at the people who were most likely paid off to act as stereotypically obese as possible.

If you wanna actually help, encourage, educate, and positively reinforce their successes and failures as they come.

This. It isn't about food, it's about how much you hate yourself or cognitive dissonance caused by trauma or whatever other psychological shit that isn't being adequately addressed.

The worst part we the family member saying something like "If Kristen doesn't change her eating habits, shes going to lose her mobility."

I just want to grab her and say "You dumb bitch. Stop giving her so much fucking food. If she has to actually get up and go out to get more food, she might actually burn a few calories."
