she worked thanksgiving or christmas last year, I forget which, and went home with $500

but she's a really good server and it was a really nice restaurant

And they don't because you can make some great money. I knew bartenders that would work 3 nights a week and be set. Servers working less than 40 hours and were set. Shit was good money.

Im neither intimidated nor ignorant. And i still tip accordingly. You can just leave a dollar or two ya know, and as a single person thats all you would ever have to leave anyway.

But it should still be proportionate to service recieved. Base pay doesnt encourage great service no matter what it is, but a chance for a healthy tip will do so easily. If im going out to eat, i dont want to be waited on by someone just trying to get a paycheck. I might not even tip someone thats like this.

But someone that goes above and beyond? Yeah, you can have 5 or 6.

Not tipping makes you cheap. That's just a fact that you're gonna have to come to come to grips with.

And dude, no one is forcing you to tip, so why are you this butthurt over it? As a society we've just decided that certain jobs mostly in the hospitality industry should receive tips based on the level of service or whatever the customer considers to be important. This is just one of the many things included in something called the "social contract" which is a set of unwritten guidelines we've all ( well, the vast majority of us) agreed upon to benefit society as a whole.
