Turns out most Mega Man X games are still pretty good. X6 and X7 are still bad though!

Emulation features leaves a lot to be desired, but the galleries have a lot of good stuff and the new X-Challenge mode seems fun!

so you need to hit the top face button of your respective platforms controller to save the game when on the password screen it doesn't do it automatically (Triangle on PS4 for example)

also saves aren't compatible across the different langauge versions my Rockman X save I just made doesn't work with Mega Man X

They also didn't fix much either. X3 still audio skips from what I've heard, X5 still has you unable to skip scenes/Alia, which kills replay value, X7 still has massive slowdown and other technical issues. Or is this asking too much because it's a collection?

Most ports fix issues like that even if they aren't remasters. It's the sort of thing that you'd expect to be fixed in a patch.

It's not a normal port, either. It's basically emulation.

They've been like, super clear in their collections that they are literally presented in the original form.

Street Fighter collection is full of crap like that

For the first game I think the only difference is the Japanese text scrolls faster and there's less text boxes overall so it's a better pick for Speed running

also obviously you get the Japanese names of all the Mavericks on the boss select screen

i never realized spark mandrill's stage had REALLY FUCKING ANNOYING electric pulses in the ground at the start of the stage because I've never played that stage before beating storm eagle lol

do all the other games have similar things where stages change depending on boss order?

Storm eagle's ship can be seen in the bottom of the ocean in the Octopus' stage if you beat him first IIRC

I think if you beat Chill Penguin, the lava freezes over in the mammoth stage?

I think theres at least one more on top of the Mandrill one

I always play the Maverick stages in MMX1 in the same order because it's ingrained in my brain.

Chill Penguin --> Spark Mandrill --> Armored Armadillo --> Launch Octopus --> Boomer Kuwanger --> Sting Chameleon --> Storm Eagle --> Flame Mammoth

You can't properly finish certain stages in 1 without beating the right boss to change that stage first

The water from Octopus is necessary to get the heart from Chameleon, as an example.

I pretty much stick to the same order that I did the very first time I played the game back when I was like 12 it's probably not ideal
