Not to mention he has always been vocal about hating JRPG's. It's why when he actually likes one he makes a big fucking deal about it.

As soon as I saw this pop up on Youtube I was like "he's just going to shit all over it."

And I mean, he does have valid points. I'm loving the game but it's quickly becoming super overrated.

I honestly can't believe the novelty would be there for someone who regularly plays JRPG's. I feel like the only reason I'm enjoying it as much as I am is because I haven't played a JRPG in like 14 years.

like, party banters start in chapter 2 lol

So far they've been pretty lame and feel tacked on, but I'm only like on my second chapter 2 part..

And he's absolutely correct about it feeling weird how the party has no actual interaction within the storylines at all. They're not even on screen during cutscenes or anything.

Exactly.

Dunkey has even said that you need to find critics you respond to. So if you like TBRPGs then dont watch Dunkey for his reviews of them.
Hes a comedian first and foremost. This review takes some liberties for comedys sake and thats what Dunkey does best.

Getting mad at Dunkey for an RPG review is like getting mad at the Honest Trailers people because you think theyre being 100% serious.

It's clearly made in jest, but he has a point about the characters not interacting much. The party banter scenes have felt really tacked on so far.

Like I'm enjoying the game but I do have to scratch my head at the people I see calling it a masterpiece and stuff.

He makes decent points, but yeah his videos aren't meant to be taken seriously. I disagree with him about the battle system, I think it's properly done correctly.

I also disagree with him with his Yooka Laylee video but opinions are opinions.

A lot of people use Gfaqs when it came to JRPG's for translations and because a lot of times the game doesn't do a good job in describing it's battle system so Gfaqs was the to go place for them. So yeah expect this place to have a soft spot for them.

Kirby is pretty much the best example of that, because it's a game where all the fun and satisfaction comes from that quick action which makes the player feel strong rather than difficulty

A little disengenous though cuz a level 20 Olberic isn't traveling on his own unless you want an intentionally arduous experience. A full party would have taken that low level out in 5 seconds or you would just run.

I thought Primrose's story was really awesome in the demo while the other guy was a bit boring. That's the guy Dunkey ranted about. But that's fine. I hope the stories have a bit of variety so I can overlook a couple being generic.

Gonna start playing the full game later today. I'm not overly concerned with the criticisms really. The structure sounds interesting.

The stories aren't that bad.

And the combat is fantastic.
