at one point I was like the main characters of every Harvest Moon game, and for some reason I thought I wanted to be a farmer. I had no idea how much work was involved. this was when i was pretty young

later on I used to want to be a writer. I have ideas for fantasy and sci fi novels but I don't know how to write and I gave up. I used to think someday I would have novels in book stores like 100 years from now in a section called "21st century classical literature"

I didn't have anything in mind when I was a kid. When I got into my teens I thought I'd like to be a writer, but it was never something I saw as a realistic prospect.

I remember jokingly saying I wanted to be a highly paid assassin in the 5th grade for a project (I had just watched the movie Assassins with Stallone and Banderas). I was taken to the principals office and received a 3 day in school suspension. Got to sit in the principals office for those 3 days.

Archaeologist, but then my dad took me to a dig and I realized how many spiders/various bugs I'd have to deal with and said never again.

Then I wanted to be a Marine Biologist, so I went on a dive with my uncle who is one. That's when I realized I'm deathly afraid of deep, open water. It triggered my first ever panic attack. So that was no longer an option.

Then I wanted to be a Clinical Psychologist, so I went to a ward with one of the nuns from the school I went to who volunteered there. Realized I'd mostly be giving people sponge baths and cleaning up shit for the first 10-15 years of my career so that went out the window.

Now I work at UPS.

My entire life has been trying to figure out what to do with my life. I remember at 12 my life plan was to be a doctor, a chef, and inventor. I can cook my own food, diagnose my own problems, and create whatever I want.

Looking back some 14 years later, I have worked in a research hospital under a physicist and inventor training to be a research engineer. There were no grants for me to get paid, so I had to move on. Later on, I spent a year working in the kitchen with one of my best HS friends who's a chef. Too bad my entire family and basically who knew of me were pissed at me for "flipping burgers", so the pressure got to me. Now, I am in some government job that has nothing to do with any of my dreams and everything to do with my childhood nightmares, i.e. living in cube farm. Funny how life works, eh?

I never knew what I wanted to be. I had no strong pull towards anything really.
I didn't know as a kid.
I didn't know in high school when everyone is pressuring you to decide at 15 what you want to do with the rest of your life.
I didn't know in my 20s when people said take out a loan and go to college as if money grows on trees and debt you can't pay back is nothing.
I don't now at 36.

You just end up in something you never thought you would be in. Usually it sucks but that's reality. That seems to be everyone I know including those that told me to take out those loans.
