I've been playing through it recently for the first time. I recall seeing a lot of negativity at launch. Why was it so poorly received?

It was hyped up beyond its means simply because it had the guy behind the Mega Man games at the helm at a time when Capcom was actively ignoring Mega Man.

It also promised things that did not make it into the final game.

Many people felt that much of the money ($4 million, I believe?) earned from the Kickstarter was squandered when you look at the final product.

Graphics are not up to par; explosions have been compared to pizza pies, for example.

Gameplay isn't as refined as one would hope.

"Make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night."

Four hour long credits, listing every single one of the Kickstarter backers (most of whom are anonymous).

From what I've heard also a major thing is that the level design and enemy placing terrible and doesn't lend itself to dashing and being speedy like the game wants. It'll lead to a lot of damage and cheap deaths.

People (rightfully) expected something more than what they got. After numerous delays, what came out looked like a cheap and amateur effort that didn't even have everything that was promised.

This is VERY true. The only stage I thought was a super interesting idea that was pulled off well was the Sniper guy with all the hallways.

Megaman games have been conditioning players to avoid touching enemies and now we're supposed to enjoy it. Touching enemies should not intrinsically hurt you if they wanted a dash kill mechanic to work.

Fair enough. It seemed, during the kickstarter, that it would be AAA but after reading through this topic, it seems giving that allure was part of the issue.

MN9 was also the first big failure of kickstarted games as I recall. It tanked a lot of people's faith in throwing money at something just because a guy behind it has a good pedigree.

But then Shenmue 3's still made bank so what do I know.

I got it for $7.50 with a free digital copy, poster and dlc. Pretty good for that price.

Nice, the recent Rayman games are a good time.

First Rayman I've ever played. Feels like a better version of current Donkey Kong. I tried for awhile to get into Tropical Freeze on the Switch and I just couldn't. I've already invested more time in this today. Also, game is fucking beautiful.

Balance issues

Dashing completely ruined it for me. Such a stupid, unnecessary mechanic.

The character sizes and widescreen format kind of fucked with me too, but I was still willing to give it a try at first.

Hopefully Mega Man 11 won't try adding to much and screwing up the formula. I'm already not a fan of the graphics, but I could get over it. I'd buy the hell out of an 8-bit version DLC though.
