I've been married almost a year now, and honestly it was the best decision I ever made. What's everyone else's opinion on marriage in general or their own marriage here?

Everyone who is married, why do you think marriage is so much better than just, say, cohabitation?

I mean, nothing really changes other than the ring on your finger and tax benefits

I guess marriage is better than cohabitation in that it really is a full commitment to the other person. Kind of like saying "we're boyfriend and girlfriend" rather than "we hang out a lot and kiss sometimes".

I am on my third marriage. I got it right this time. Advice; don't rush into marriage or be too young (the first one) or marry someone that you don't love just because she's pressing you constantly (the second one), marry your best friend, give your relationship some time to grow and mature, and be absolutely certain (the third one).

I would also suggest living together for at least a year before considering marriage, as that person may have annoying or nasty habits, or other incompatibilities.

This is just not true. I lived with my wife almost 2 years before we got married and afterwards it just completely changes the dynamics of the relationship.

It goes from being that kind of uncertain uneasiness of "is this the kind of woman I may wanna spend my whole life with or break up one day maybe" to "what's the next 10 years of our lives gonna be like together, what about the next 30 years? I think we can stay together until we die."

For my wife to be able to eventually move to Canada with me and currently moving to China with me, we need to be married for that to happen. No marriage, no visa.

And so on. In the end, a good couple will stay together without being married and nothing can save a bad couple, not marriage, not being handcuffed together for the rest of their lives

That's why I think the whole thing is just redundant

I also like to laugh at the whole "uh oh you're married, your sex life is over"

I have sex with a SMOKING hot woman who I feel completely at ease around 2-4 times a week every year, all year. Do you get laid that much, single dude? Or are you juggling tinder dates and suffering through dry spells?

marriage is sweet

Been engaged for a year and a half, dating her on and off for 11 years, and have a baby daughter.

We don't know whether to get a courthouse marriage soon or wait a few years until we can afford the kind of wedding we want. The latter option would probably take 5+ years tbh, so I'd rather go with the former.
