And I have you tagged as "refuses singular they" so nice misgendering. By the way, there's a lot of things people try to debate that really aren't subjects that should be debated. Like that all people, regardless of where they come from, deserve to be treated with a certain level of dignity so as not to commit human rights violations. Or that there's a historic legacy of anti-minority (especially anti-black) sentiment built into the very fabric of American society. I mean you can try and debate against them but the only reason somebody would debate against those things is because they don't think they're actually issues worth addressing (if they even believe they exist).

I dunno there'd be less of a joke if it was say obama and trudeau because they are both considered gay friendly. Trump and especially putin are not, so attributing homosexuality to them is subversive ie humorous. I don't see it as homophobic so much as a subversion of how they project themselves as "strong" macho straight men. And there is a tendency for people to reduce homosexual relations to a joke but it's a small element of this I think
