Give me random fun facts about physics, biology, and chemistry. I sometimes realise how little I know about this stuff, probably partly because I'm much more interested in soft science, such as sociology and psychology.

I'll start.

Scientists believe that about 80% of matter is dark matter.

The Marianas Trench resides out in the Pacific Ocean and is said to be the deepest, darkest, blackest region on the entire planet. Next to your mom's vagina, of course.

In the last few days, that although M-Theory says there are 11 dimensions, bosonic theory says there are 26 dimensions. I must admit, I really don't understand this kind of thing.

M-theory is a unification of different string theories

Bosonic theory is a string theory that fails Occam's razor

You know, I was thinking earlier today, that possibly both M-Theory and bosonic theory would fail Occur's Razor. Funny, that.

Tacyons (sp?) was hypothosised for a long time as faster-than-life particles, but were eventually disproven. Shame, would've been interesting.

Cancer is a direct result of the advancement in medicine. The longer you live the more chances for your cells to split incorrectly and for that cell to split again and again....back in the day when the life expectancy was 40 or so cancer didnt exist or was exceedingly rare because we never lived long enough for it to manifest

Diabetes still being very prevalent has a bit to do with the people who survived the last ice age. More sugar in their diet meant that theyd be less likely to freeze to death.

While it is true that cancer is more common now, back in the day it wasnt uncommon for people to live to be 70, a big part of the lowered average is that children were much more likely to die than today.

Once you became an adult, you had a decent chance to make it to a ripe old age.

Likewise, African American populations have problems with salt retention and hypertension and whatnotbecause the people who could keep salt we're more likely to survive The Middle Passage.

also, it's an indirect result of medical advancements. not a direct one
