Thats expensive for a gym imo but I dont know where you live.

If you do mostly cardio a professional treadmill pays off in about 2-3 years.

Thats kinda weird if real. Why would a gym offer a more expensive up front cost and almost no free rewards?

So you forget to cancel and end up paying two years.

My phone payment is cheaper if I do auto-payments, because they want to encourage people to forget and keep paying even if they're dead. I'm sure the gym is using similar logic.

The fact that direct debit is cheaper and offers far more free stuff over 12 months upfront.

It's in AUD (so maybe $500 USD?). Plus I get access to the swimming pool + sauna as well.

Plus it's normally meant to be $1028 for 12 months. I get a corporate discount. Oh, and it will be able to claim about 30% of it from health insurance too.

Oh, and this is a fancy schmancy gym. Virgin Active (the same guys who fly planes).

I went to the YMCA to get a pool membership, and their cheapest option was literally $70/mo/person.

It was kinda like "welp, looks like I'm stuck being fat."
