Storywise, is it worth going through it all until Origins or are some skippable? I faintly remember Desmond dying at the end of AC3 to stop the end of the world.

Story wise not really, they sort of hit the peak after three.

4 is the best of the "old school" assassins Creed. Awesome game and it starts the current post - Desmond dying we're in now. 4 and origins are the only ones worth playing through now I would say, and even then 4 is a bitch to find in stores.

There hasn't really been a story since 3.

That sucks, I found the present day storyline quite interesting.

Thanks for the info. So the story from AC4 onwards are connected like the first 3 are, or are they stand-alone?

Black Flag is the best Assassin's Creed since II if you like naval combat, otherwise it would be Origins.

They're connected but the overarching plotline is so barren that you can really treat any of them as stand-alone. Even then I'm pretty sure each one gives a summary of what happened last time if you explore the modern parts.

Thanks again for the info guys. Seems the consensus is that Black Flag is worth playing, will check that out first.

Rogue seems often overlooked too, and I'd recommend that. Think it recently got a remaster too. Rogue is pretty similar to Black Flag in terms of gameplay focus, just to beware.

It's a shame that they wasted the Victorian England setting on Syndicate, same with Unity and the French Revolution. The latter is a gorgeous looking game with an intriguing setting, plus lots of cool customization options and multiplayer co-op but the gameplay, story and all other important facets of what makes a game enjoyable are a disappointment.
