Yeah, I haven't bought a physical movie in over a year and a half. I can't imagine finding space for movies in my place, when digital movies are often on sale, take up no space, and are easy to move. Everyone has a wifi connection of some sort in 2018

I still have ~200 VHS tapes, ~280 DVDs, and ~80 BDs. Formats change as the base technology changes. It sucks and I absolutely limit my physical purchases now but I still prefer physical over streaming. For example, Netflix has a limit of ~5MB/s for 1080p whereas BDs typically run ~20-25MB/s. Literally 4x+ the amount of information on the screen at all times and I can tell the difference with well-shot movies on my plasma, most specifically the colour gradients. And then there's audio, which I think can be an additional ~3-7MB/s for PCM 5.1/7.1 DTS-HD MA. I can ABSOLUTELY tell the difference in the quality and effective sound field even with my mediocre speakers.

Digital downloads are a different beast and can definitely match the quality of physical... but there's just something about having a physical thing that can never be removed from a server and inaccessible, plus the thankfully small but needless packaging, y'know?

With Blu-ray they can do some neat stuff like pop-ups and I learned alot watching "State of Play" about Washington, DC and old school journalism.
