Yea, I mean, its clear a lot of liberals didnt think that based on what they were saying how the trade war would hurt the US markets.

ill be honest

no, it was not obvious to me

i held off on investing during his presidency until collins indicated she was going to vote in favor, that was late nov/very early dec. by then i had learned, and it was clear.

that was when i threw most of my portfolio long. i left some off the table until jan, then put that on.

through everything that has happened since i have generally put new money to work anytime there was a market shock related to a statement made by him/someone quitting his admin, because i've always taken it as an action to fade.

markets are going up, trump reliably says things that are false, and in general i assume the opposite is true whenever he speaks.

had i trusted markets would consistently rise throughout his presidency and ignore his asinine bullshit, I'd probably have an extra hundred thousand dollars in my portfolio. that was my personal idiot tax.

Do you look at technicals? All TA traders I know have been saying the stock market would be bullish, they must be seeing bullish momentum in the charts that goes beyond the level of impact Trump can have on the economy through fundamentals.

Did you expect something like this Darkman, was it a common sense move?

That Trump's boasting would be largely ignored?

Yea, I mean, its clear a lot of liberals didnt think that based on what they were saying how the trade war would hurt the US markets.

You realize that the actual effects haven't hit us yet, right? The markets seem to be betting that Trump will cave before too much damage is actually done.

Just so Im hearing you right, youre saying it was common sensical the markets would ignore Trump? I mean, the way people were talking about it was as if the damages of trade war would reflect in the US markets even in the short term. The longer term damages would be more substantive, but you would at least see a noticeable downward price movement in the short term in the exchanges, I dont think that was too unreasonable an outlook personally.

Trump is famous for talking out his ass. The market takes that into account.

I see. I guess all those people such as Darkman must have been stupid for not thinking it was common sense the market would take Trumps bs into account with the price. Do you have other common sensical investment advice to offer that people can profit from?

My portfolio has done really well in the last year and a half. I'm hoping it'll continue. A lot of the growth was driven by UNH's monstrous growth and I'm going long on that because I think we've barely scratched the surface of what it's capable of.

You're putting words in my mouth. I didn't call anyone stupid. Just said that it's not surprising that people don't take Trump seriously. Even Darkman said, whatever Trump says, he usually expects the opposite.

Why are you still doing this trolling? You already admitted to supporting Trump on here just to trigger people.

My bad, I just figure if you say someone is not using common sense, you would make the conclusion theyre being stupid. Not that theyre stupid, just that theyre being stupid in that particular scenario, tell me if Im being unreasonable. When I asked Darkman for the source of his original claim that US investors just ignored Trump, you responded with common sense. Which I infer to mean it should have been common sense to think that wouldve happened. Since Darkman didnt think that, based on your logic it would mean he didnt have the common sense to think that, ergo he was being stupid. Does that make sense?

Also, Im not trolling here, Im just trying to follow the logic of what you said.

i try not to put too much trust in technicals. there's a lot of indicators and they're never functional all of the time.

but yes.

it was either 13 or 14 at that time. i dont remember which.

if 14, it's been volatile but flat

if 13, it's up 7%

but it has finished its bottoming process, barring some new horror show.

i guess technically it has had an ex-div date since then? so another .75% or so on top

More on UNH:

So, I believe that UNH will become the Amazon of the healthcare space. IE, it will continue to develop strategic partnerships and platforms that actually address real healthcare needs (smoking, pregnancy, obesity) with increasingly smaller marginal costs. And it will reap enormous profits while doing so, just like Amazon has become a titan thanks to things like AWS.

With AWS you can spin up supercomputing clusters within minutes for a couple dollars per hour. So AWS has snagged a shit ton of market share and has become crucial to most of the internet we all use today. Despite the low costs, Amazon makes a shit ton of money. I think the same thing will happen to whichever entity becomes the low-cost platform for healthcare solutions in general. And UNH is rapidly transforming into that platform.

not much of a gain to me, i'm bouncing around penny stocks looking for 5%+

risky and 22nd Century Group gave me a 4% loss, not enough to wipe out plug ~10%, NVAX 5%, SGYP 5%

i bought at 17 or 18, i was not calling it a bottom at the time, but rather buying long term, expecting a further 10% decline. i was surprised that it was a further 30% decline, for sure.

i started encouraging other people to buy around 13-14.
