I don't get it. I saw his speech he gave and he seems pretty mild to me. yet there were some CEmen saying "fuck trump". what do you expect? Trump is going to pick someone who leans to the right probably. but this guy seems ok. he's a republican but he said he would follow the law as written and follow established precedent, which means he WILL NOT try to undo abortion law. I think some people don't think or don't bother to research and just auto hate the man without even spending one second to hear his opinions, just cause Trump picked him.

I would have preferred Hardiman, but I guess it could have been worse.

It does seem awfully convenient that Kavanaugh has argued in the past that the president can't be indicted while in office, though.

if i had to form an uninformed but reasonable opinion on the matter, using the information/opinions i had right now (why would anyone do this? is this something we should be doing?):

i think a conservative SC might not be all bad because we may or may not have a minor Enlightenment this century, which means lots of new values and narratives, which means some appeal to tradition can be a measured response

EDIT: to actually answer the question, if people with similar political beliefs and values to mine are upset about it then i probably would be too

Between trump not having the majority of votes, Obama's SC nominee being blockaded and this guy having argued the president is above the law (especially when he'd be one of the deciding votes should Trump get charged with anything), well... They basically are stacking the deck and ensuring that even if they don't win, they won't lose. And that harm they've caused will be felt for generations.

Also it's extremely suspicious that Kennedy, at his age and with good health, would retire like he did. Then the news breaking not even a week later regarding his son being linked to businesses that loaned Trump money? It makes it seem like somebody is being blackmailed. Or else, to ensure that his son will get off as he'd have to recuse himself from a case if it reached the SCOTUS, he had to make sure somebody who would never seek to convict his son would take up that decisive seat.

I'm generally annoyed that Trump has gotten to pick two justices and may very well get a third if he finishes his first term in office

i hope Trump loses in 2020 so this legal opinion mysteriously fades into obscurity never to be seen again

Nominate =/= hire

He has to get approved by the Senate.

Still would require the guy he got in last year to ascend to the next life since there's no way he will retire from that position and give up the opportunity to throw his hatred out there for decades.

he doesn't think the sitting president should be indited, which is the only reason trump wanted him, so yes, I'm upset.
