The failing NY Times Fake News story today about breast feeding must be called out. The U.S. strongly supports breast feeding but we dont believe women should be denied access to formula. Many women need this option because of malnutrition and poverty.

Pfizer & others should be ashamed that they have raised drug prices for no reason. They are merely taking advantage of the poor & others unable to defend themselves, while at the same time giving bargain basement prices to other countries in Europe & elsewhere. We will respond!

Nope
.Then the United States delegation, embracing the interests of infant formula manufacturers, upended the deliberations.

American officials sought to water down the resolution by removing language that called on governments to protect, promote and support breast-feeding and another passage that called on policymakers to restrict the promotion of food products that many experts say can have deleterious effects on young children.

When that failed, they turned to threats, according to diplomats and government officials who took part in the discussions. Ecuador, which had planned to introduce the measure, was the first to find itself in the cross hairs.

The Americans were blunt: If Ecuador refused to drop the resolution, Washington would unleash punishing trade measures and withdraw crucial military aid. The Ecuadorean government quickly acquiesced.

The reason is because the wording of the resolution implies that babies cannot be healthy without being breast fed. The DHS took issue with that wording because it demonizes all women who are not able to breast feed or simply choose not to.

For people who are so concerned about women's rights, you would assume they would care about the free choice women have in such an issue. Liberals as it is are not actually concerned about a woman's right to choose in any issue that isn't abortion related.

Damn, Hoth, why are you always lying?

I'm not Hoth, but what did I lie about? The article directly stated as much.

"The Department of Health and Human Services, the lead agency in the effort to modify the resolution, explained the decision to contest the resolutions wording"

The resolution as originally drafted placed unnecessary hurdles for mothers seeking to provide nutrition to their children, an H.H.S. spokesman said in an email. We recognize not all women are able to breast-feed for a variety of reasons. These women should have the choice and access to alternatives for the health of their babies, and not be stigmatized for the ways in which they are able to do so.

Keep trying to lie about what actually happened though it's easier to prove you wrong when you do so.

http://www.who.int/nutrition/publications/infantfeeding/breastmilk-substitutes-FAQ2017/en/

This is what the issue is almost entirely. This whole "international code" cites data that is not at all scientific to make outrageous claims about breastfeeding and how life saving it is. There's been no double blind studies about the efficacy of breastfeeding versus formula fed infants because its been deemed unethical by the scientific community, yet that does not stop them from claiming that breastfeeding can save the lives of 800,000 infants per year. This is literally scientifically unfounded.

The irony of liberals here jumping on the side of Russia is delicious though. Especially when defending a resolution that's based entirely on conjecture that has literally has zero scientific evidence to support it.

Furthermore, donations of free or subsidized supplies of breast-milk substitutes or other products, as well as gifts or personal samples to health workers, are not allowed in any part of the health care system. Even for medical institutions dealing with infants who have a medical indication not to breastfeed , they sh ould not accept free or low - cost supplies or give out samples of those products. WHA Resolution 39.28 clearly stated that infant formula needed for infants with medical reasons for its use should be obtained through normal procurement channels.

In the most serious and non-partisan way possible to explain what my position is on this issue and why I'm against this purely from a logical standpoint...

The WHO put out this measure in an attempt to spread propaganda about the efficacy of breastfeeding versus formula with 0 evidence to back up wild claims that they made like breastfeeding can save the lives of 800,000 babies per year.

Because of this they created this international code of adevertising rules that is to be applied to several countries that limits the ways that infant formula can be advertised.

This entire plan is faulty because it's based entirely on myths and misconceptions about formula and has 0 scientific research backing it because scientific research about this issue has been deemed to be unethical to conduct.

This fact did not stop the WHO from creating these rules though and this is an attempt from them to further enforce them.

This is not only illogical, but it's unquestionably an assault on the right of free choice for women to choose whether or not to feed their babies with formula.

Aside from all that which was the reason for my forming my opinion, the fact that Russia strong armed this resolution and liberals are now defending an action taken by them against the will of the Trump Administration is just too ironic to ignore.

Trump is being demonized because of the stance that the Department of Health and Human Services took on this issue that the wording of this resolution unfairly demonized women who choose to feed their infants with formula.
