Yay nostalgia I guess? I don't get why they'd do this now, instead of the beginning of the year, or last year... made me wonder if David Dahl had a setback, but it looks like he got activated for Triple-A yesterday. Weird.

If he makes the major league club it's going to be pretty weird seeing Holliday and CarGo on the same team. Not just because they were once traded for each other but also because any Rockies fans who still have old Holliday jerseys will have the wrong number now

I'm playing Persona 5 now. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's my first Persona and the daily structure of it makes it crazy addicting. Any game with that "I'll just play for one more day" thing going on can get its hooks in me.

Still not as weird as the guys in St. Louis who had the wrong Holliday jersey because they bought them during his half season in 09 before he re-signed and changed his number

This is why we thank SBAllen every day for never archiving PotD. Posts made on the baseball and NFL boards will live forever but we're spared that much.

There actually used to be a pretty big archiving site that included PotD a few years back, but then it stopped saving posts from here, and now it looks like it's gone altogether. There's a newer one now too but I was looking at it just now and apparently it only saves back a couple purges, not everything

You would think that even before these recent re surge of old tweets resurfacing, athletes and other famous people would first of all, not say stuff like that on social media, and second, go back through all their old tweets. Surprising that people with tens/hundreds of thousands of followers plus would be more mindful of that

Remember when Cam Newton said something like "it's funny hearing a female talk about routes" and caused that whole mess? People went through that reporter's twitter and found old racist tweets. It's weird that I'm more mindful of my tweets just for potential employers and stuff than an actual reporter is

Literally everyone who has a Twitter account should just delete it because there's no upside to it. It's just the app that gets you in trouble. But it helps me waste time at work, so it's impossible to say whether it's good or bad.

^ I don't know what you mean by that, but if athletes/famous people on twitter follow Dwight's very simple rule they will be just fine: Whenever I'm about to do something, I think, "Would an idiot do that?" And if they would, I do not do that thing.

Did you guys say the f word a lot growing up? Not fuck, the other one. I mean I'll admit I did, but when I was like 12... I think it was just a thing a lot of people my age said at that time and didn't think much of. I'd say I largely stopped well before I was 17/18 and almost certainly wouldn't have tweeted it at any age. It's crazy to me that these guys are still like that at an older age, and also being younger overall so they grew up in a time with more gay acceptance

Then again athletes have never exactly been a paragon of intelligence/good decision-making

All I mean is, what exactly is Trea Turner getting out of having a twitter account? What are the benefits? The only outcomes here were that people find out about the old tweets and get mad at him or no one ever finds out and everyone remains completely neutral on him. It isn't like having a twitter is good for his career.

Wow then the Astros traded for domestic abuser Roberto Osuna today right after I said that. That sucks. The least offensive AL playoff team might be the chief wahoos, them or whoever comes out of the AL west for the wild card game and then loses to the Yankees. The coolest NL team might end up being the Dodgers or Phillies or some messed up shit too

I can't root for the Dodgers. It's not fair being in a division where one team clearly has way more assets/money/market appeal. Of course you probably feel that too with the Cubs. I guess the little guys in the NL East have it worst with two of those teams. Admittedly all four of those teams currently have a good amount of homegrown talent helping them out, but still.

NL East seems like it would be the best division to try competing in with the cheap-ass Mets and Marlins. Or the AL Central I guess but that's just because it sucks. I don't know enough about those teams to say how actively cheap/shady their ownership is

The White Sox are the only team in that division that has a chance to challenge Cleveland within the next couple years if they make savvy moves. Aside from the possibility of one of those random flukey runs from the twins or maybe tigers but that seems less and less likely. The Royals are going to be horrible for a while probably.

Vikings re-sign Diggs for 14 mil a year through 2022.

Thielen is averaging less than 5 mil a year though 2020. He signed that contract only a year ago, but I wonder if he'll ask for a pay increase. He's been as productive if not more productive than Diggs, partially because Diggs has missed a game or 2 a season due to injury. Thielen doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would demand a new contract and holdout, but who knows. Maybe if he has a monster year

What I'm saying is they're all underpaid vs the revenue of the league but specifically all the best players are underpaid vs market value for their talents and they should hold out, but most players don't because it makes the fans mad. How much money wuold someone like Thielen even lose by holding out and missing a preseason game? $80k or something? Aaron Donald does this every year now because the teams don't even enforce the fines unless they hate or don't want the guy to stick around

Oh, right. Sort of related, I read this article a while ago discussing Lebron's value, as in how much money and fans he brings to the NBA. Like when he comes to MN for example, it's always a sell out game with people who just want to see lebron play, even when the wolves were garbage. There's not really a way to put a number on his value, but it's way way more than his max contract gives him.

Yeah that's crazy. And then there's Curry who was the face of the franchise as they went from also-ran to the best ever and makes $40MM/yr or whatever but that's a fraction of the profits he brought to that team. And the NBA is probably the best of the major sports in how the players are treated financially. MLB used to be good but it's getting weird now but that was only ever for the big leaguers anyway, minor league players live in squalor
