Lol at some dude totally making up that a teacher said no one beat slaves

Theyd lose their job for that if even just two students came forward about it

when I was in HS, there were biology teachers that refused to teach evolution, so I believe this could happen for sure

They have textbooks all over the south right now in 2018 claiming slaves were immigrants and workers and treated fairly.

They were recalled by McGraw Hill. The very same books portrayed poor whites as abused indentured servants.

These two posts literally say exact opposite things.

Which is it? Are they all over the South right now in 2018, or were they recalled?

We're not your damn slaves. Google your own research if you care to no longer, not be "in the know". Otherwise, stop misrepresenting something you're 100% wrong about.

He's trying to be extremely technical and win with a "gotcha" about the wording. I don't know if all the books were recalled by McGraw Hill or not but assuming that's true, he's going for the "See this isn't true in 2018, that was back in 2016!!" as if that defeats the larger point, that there shouldn't have been any books out there to begin with stating these things, especially in modern times. Doesn't really matter if it was this, year, last year, or 10 years ago.

I'm not trying to be extremely technical. He just literally stated opposite things. The premise of his first post was based upon the fact that this is a problem because they still exist all over the South today. This notion was refuted in his own post.

Now your point that you're trying to make of it doesn't matter if it was 2016 or today it never should have happened is just totally and completely ridiculous. There's a billion issues that never should have happened, what's important about them is whether or not there have since been steps that have been taken to correct them.

In this case there has already been steps that have been taken that completely corrected the issue.

This is why his post and your post are totally fucking stupid.

But he claims he's a teacher in Louisiana. How can a teacher be this petty about a debate on slavery? Unless....they are literally doing the same kind of actions the Teacher I described was doing, which is basically slavery denial.

Your confusing me with a different user. I'm not a teacher and never said that. Secondly the argument I'm making isn't petty. He made a probably false claim about there being textbooks all over the South today that say this. Then he refuted that himself in a later post. That's not a petty argument.

Ppl are slaves rn.

Of course, but not anyone here on CE.

If you are one of those young women being sold as a sex slave or you are a young boy "recruited" by a warlord, then you have every justification to be pissed off about your situation. If you toil in a sweatshop where they've confiscated your passport, restrict you in other illegal ways and you're not even sure if you will even be paid or have food to eat, then you also are a slave. Anyone else who is not in a similar situation is just yapping nonsense if they try to equate their life to slavery. Horrific things did happen in the past, but you didn't experience any of it. None of us have.

thank you for another one

Except you're still missing the overall larger point here. Books that inaccurately portrayed the true state of slavery existed in modern times. This goes along with the theme presented earlier of people re-writing history to suit their own agenda. Whether or not that was the text string specifically that he was quoting is irrelevant, it's a theme presented in the topic and I'm looking at the issue though full context of the topic.

And it does matter that books like that should have never been created in the first place because even if they took steps to correct the issue after the fact, it says something that the books got out there with that message to begin with. I'm not about to give kudos to them for correcting mistakes that very obviously shouldn't have been made in the first place. This calls into question the motivations, integrity and intelligence of the people meant to help educate our youth. It shows that even in modern times, educators are looking to downplay or dismiss certain aspects of history. That means that the people meant to educate our youth are stupidly putting shit out there that is blatantly incorrect and even if they have corrected it the damage is already done. That curriculum has already been taught and undoubtedly there are people that might subscribe to those laughably false beliefs, and they have every reason to because they were taught from what are supposed to be believable sources. That matters.

So I will say it again, whether or not there are books out there in 2018, I honestly don't know but the fact that books with that information even existed 5 years ago is very troubling and no, they should have never existed.

And your dumbass point about a billion things that shouldn't have happened is irrelevant. We could use that logic about literally anything.

Same here. Then again, I rarely pay attention to social media things at times. Must be a younger generation thing, because me and my fam got fat off some grilled hot dogs, burgers, beef ribs, corn on the cob, and potato salad yesterday. We all had that itis by the time 10:00 pm came around, lol.

But you're not celebrating what July 4th stands for. You just see it as a time to have BBQ and hang out

Yes we can use that logic about literally anything. That's exactly why the point you and he were making is bullshit. When talking about slavery you can state "slavery" should have never been an issue, ok, that does nothing and means absolutely nothing when it's a issue that has already been corrected.

Wow, he really can't understand the consiquences of teaching a class by a erronious text book can lead to youths growing up with ideals and notions about slavery that never existed. As long as the books themselves are corrected, the minds of the youth are also retroactively corrected to unlearn the misinformation (such as the treatment of slaves being like "prized livestock" rather than inhuman slavery)

Basically they create you. The type of person that argues fact over the internet with people when you are neither a legislature, a governor, a lawyer, or hell, even a teacher, meaning that our breath is literally WASTED on you because even if you were to be like "ooooooooh" it wouldn't made any difference. We I stated "it doesn't matter whether it was 2016 or 10 years ago" I was talking specifically about the inaccurate info being put into textbooks. Here, you seem to be talking about slavery itself.

Pretty much. On an even broader note though, shit like this is the type of stuff that disallows people to understand exactly how terrible the black American experience was from the birth of this country through the heyday of the civil rights movement and how it affects people even to this day. Because accurate descriptions of exactly how bad it was back then is either glossed over or downplayed. This is why it annoys me so much and why we should work harder to ensure that crap like this doesn't happen to begin with, not just try to sweep it under the rug as "not mattering" after we've supposedly made effort to correct the issue.

I had to work, but got paid time and a half for it. When I got off work, we went to mother-in-laws house to eat free food. Later that night, wife and I took our son to watch the town fireworks. I told a couple people "Happy 4th" via PSN.
