It depends.

Redux has a number of added scenes, both good and bad. One of the better scenes is near the beginning with the surf board on the beach. But then, unfortunately, you get really weird, out of place scenes. There's a very random, political scene with French soldiers that feels like it should have been in a separate movie.

With the original cut, you get a complete experience. All redux does is to add scenes and add context to some other scenes, but all in all the movie doesn't suffer from the lack of the cut scenes.

Redux had weirdly shaped (but in a hot way mind you) french girl boobs but everyone agrees the added scenes drag what is already a war-is-bad movie.

I'm pretty sure the argument usually goes which is better, the heart of darkness documentary or apocalypse now.

watch both. the original is a masterpiece, and Redux is good for people who might want a "director's cut" experience. personally, i think it's better to watch the original first so you have context for what was added

oh yeah, and Heart of Darkness is arguably just as good as the movie

I've only seen Redux. Awesome movie, but it felt like the pacing was a bit off.
