So I applied for a chase sapphire reserve card online earlier and it said they would reply by mail maybe taking a month.

I finally got a letter and it says its from Chase saying they needed more info and that its from the fraud departmeqnt giving a 1-800 number to call.

I do that but just as i was doing it, and answering some questions like phone number and and address, i realize to google the number and it comes up as people sayings its a phishing scam.

Wtf, how did they know i applied for a credit card if it wasnt Chase?
I only gave the lady info on my phone number and mailing address.

It's probably legit. Many times fraud department numbers are listed as scams because people assume it's a spoofed caller.

Also post the number here so we can check.

if YOU called them and they knew you had an application, you're fine dude.

when i first applied for the chase sapphire preferred, i had to call in. it was no big deal.

if you wanna make sure you're actually approved for the card, call the automated application status line: 800-432-3117

enter your last for digits of your SSN (harmless, what are they gonna do with the last four digits? plus everyone's SSN leaked already anyway) and itll tell you what they have in their system.

i got that number from a reputable website: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/check-credit-card-application-status-issuer/

Whoops. I read that the wrong way. That's odd, then since I looked at the Google results of that number and it does seem alarming.

You're good. After looking it up, I'm guessing it came from Wilmington DE. That's where one of the main offices are.

thats weird. try calling later. or maybe you can try signing up for Chase's online service using the application number (it should be in an email or on that letter). your card should already be on there if its on the way.

anyway i think youre fine dude. getting a letter saying to call in and provide extra information to the fraud department is completely normal for chase. source: i have 14 credit cards.

i wouldn't worry. instead, i'd be excited that you are now among the ELITE

well there you go. you have them a completely random number and they had all your info. you applied online through chase's website, and thus only chase that that information.

a scammer wouldn't bother doing this to open a card under your name. they would just do it, then back out if the bank didn't give them the card. they got more SSN's to run, why waste 2-3 weeks on one dude?

make sure you spend that 4000 to get that 50,000 points! and dont forget to sign up for the priority pass. its annoying that you have to activate it, cuz other cards just send you one.

lol thats just how the world works now. they outsource customer service to india.

the 4000 yeah can be on anything. of course, spend only what you would normally buy so you dont go into debt and pay interest.

what i do is put all my monthly expenses on it, and if im nearing the end (you have 100ish days i think, even though it says 3 months) you can use Venmo to send money to a friend and have them send the money back (not through venmo though. have them cut you a check or do a bank transfer). dont use paypal cuz paypal tends to see peer to peer payments via credit cards as fraud. its dumb.

you will be paying 3% on top of what you spend, but if the difference is paying 50 bucks for 750+ dollars in points, definitely do it.

50k points can get you almost anywhere in the world!

i thought the same the first time i looked up the number to see if it was legit and all those websites kept calling it a scam

im working on mininum spend right now for a big trip to japan next year. i opened up an american express card, and my gf opened up one too. total we're getting 75000 points from this. i already have 6000ish points. transfer all those to ANA and we got 2 round trip tickets to japan, a value of 4000 dollars.

im also working on a citi card. 50k points. dunno what im going to do with this. probably use it torward hotels in japan. we have 2 SPG cards which will get us 2 free nights at any 35k hotel, so we'll probably use those too.

no it starts from card approval.

you can message chase though their website and ask when your deadline is.
