so pretty much anything i own costs $500+. Watches, jackets, shoes, etc. Sometimes we'd be heading out, and my friend would say "hey your leather jacket is so cool and it's kinda chilly tonight, can i borrow it?" or "shoot, we're going to a club and i don't have my dress shoes, can i borrow a pair of yours?"

But i absolutely do not trust my friends to wear $500+ worth of my stuff on them and getting them back in good condition. how do i tell them no without sounding stuck up because my stuff is too expensive to let them borrow or like a dick that i don't trust them.

"I honestly am not trying to sound like a dick here, but I've lost so many things over the years that I've had to straight up embargo lending things. It's not that I don't trust you, I just have to stick to my principles."

Get better friends.

Or, don't be a snoot about lending things out.

That's it.

Maybe you should stop buying $500 coats when a $40-80 coat will do you just fine

maybe you should learn to appreciate fine materials and craftsmanship. once you've experienced a $500 coat and understand exactly why it costs $500, your life is never the same again, you literally start living in a different better world.

i low key feel bad for those that wear those 40-50 dollar scratchy wool blend uniqlo coats

they don't all, but at least one does. we're hanging out during the day doing something, day bleeds into night, we have to go to the club to meet with friends, club is dress shoes only and friend doesn't want to drive 1 hr round trip to go home and get dress shoes. not that difficult to figure out.

That seems like a pretty niche scenario. Why does the friend not know to bring dress shoes if he knows hes going to the club later?

didn't say it happens every single time, but it's happened a few times

some people are bad at keeping track of time, think they'll have time to go home and change and then get lazy and don't plan ahead to take their dress shoes with them

newsflash: not everyone is on top of their shit
