I don't feel sorry for this dude at all. That being said, this example is nowhere near the worst example of civil asset forfeiture. That would be situations where the assets taken were NOT used to commit a crime, and were taken from people who committed no crime. THAT needs to be shut the fuck down.

Unless the guy was using the car as murder/assault weapon, had explosives attached to it or was driving recklessly/under the influence there was no reason to take it.

That said fuck him for dealing heroin. Taking it is shit but dealing it is trash. But still how the fuck can he work or make it to therapy without a car?

Civil forfeiture has been out of control for a long time and a lot of cops/judges/etc, legit deserve the death penalty, Life in prison, being fired, til the day of their death payment of resolutions out of their own income etc. for their gross abuses of it.

I dont give a fuck about anyone who deals heroin but I do care about legal precedents this could set. Anything that weakens civil foretijre is good in my book. Its usually disproportionate and often screws over a lot more people than just the criminal themselves(and often its not even a criminal)

i have that feud going on in my life where it screwed me over too many times (when i'm the one who never used).

i wish my parents thought about the consequences of taking those drugs each time. but they didn't think about it.

Sorry to hear. We definitely need to focus more on the ones who sell in terms of putting them behind bars, and giving the ones who use it proper treatment/rehabilitation.

After reading the article, it does appear unconstitutional.
