...all because of some vocal fans who want the same assets used over and over again instead of continuing with the modern art style.

Halo Infinite is deleting everything cool 343 did for Halo in favor of pandering to nostalgia.

All that worldbuilding they did...just into the trash like that. I still can't come to grips with the sheer stupidity of this.

yeah it sucks when a company tries to make their own original stuff but it blows b/c they're a talentless studio that is coasting on brand recognition

Like What? I haven't been following halo news. If they are going back to reach style armor, that's a big plus in my book.

343 is way more talented than Bungie. They are literally hand picked employees by Microsoft to develop their flagship franchise rather than just whoever. The only arguable thing Bungie has over them is a specific soul that hasn't been captured by them, but they've got their own that just as strong, just different.

They're going back to what's basically the Anniversary art style, so basically cartoony retro bullshit that mimics a design born of hardware limitations. And it's a main series game that's essentially Halo 6, so it completely sends things through a fucking loop.

343's artstyle for Halo is horrible compared to Bungie's. Going from Reach (the best artstyle in any Halo game) to 4 was jarring.

Going back to the old Halo style doesn't mean they're going to wipe out everything they've done. If you like 343's art style more than Bungie's you're clearly in the minority. Don't blame others for preferring the Bungie style.

Reach vs 4/5 is equal to me. They're both great in different ways.

But this isn't going to be Reach. It's going to be a bastardization of Halo 1-3.

You're making a lot of assumptions based off of a 3 minute tech demo and a few details from 343. Maybe wait until we see more of the game before doing that.

There's a lot of canon directly tied to the new looks they introduced so there's a whole clusterfuck they will have to navigate to explain this shit.

Not to mention it's thematically jarring to be modern for 6 years then go "eh fuck it, we're retro cartoony now" in the middle of a story arc.

By that do you mean the Prometheans/Forerunner aesthetic specifically? Because regarding the Covenant, I don't think changing them back would be too jarring.

What I think they should do with the Forerunners is blend 343's and Bungie's styles. I'd love to see Sentinels return for example. Not as a replacement for Prometheans, but alongside them. Since it will take place on a Halo ring, seems likely to happen.

I'm fine with how the Prometheans look. Its 343's creation and it looks fine and there is nothing to really compare it to in the past. 343's Covenant design just looks like an abomination compared to Bungie's though.

Yeah I don't have too strong of an opinion when it comes to 343's style, but the Covenant are clearly worse. What they did to Elites in particular has always bothered me a bit. Hunters are the only ones that are an improvement in my opinion. But I definitely prefer the older Elites, Jackals, and Grunts.

I love their Covenant tech designs. They're perfectly in line with the traditional style's roots but 100% better in all ways.

I also don't get what's so different about their Elites though.

The only things with the Covenant they drastically changed were Jackals and Grunts.

I just think the old Elite armor was better. I suppose you could argue that the Elites should look different post Halo 3 since they're no longer part of the Covenant. I'd still prefer the old look though.

Nah they haven't screwed anything up. We don't know a whole lot about the game, but it seems promising based off of what little we do know.

343i had a tough position to fill, but even accounting for the uphill battle in terms of how much they had to accomplish as well as fan reception (fans who grew up with Bungie Halos too), they choked in a fair amount of areas.

- Having to create a new story given that the war ended. They went in the right direction considering the set up the Bungie Halos had with forerunners, that much I'm glad for. But the execution definitely lacked. I don't particularly care about redesigns, so I won't speak to them much, but I will say one piece that not just some of the aliens, but the Spartans looked weird as well, specifically their armour of course. Almost like ogres.

- Humans aside from Spartan armour actually look really good, and I'm happy with how 343i handled this.

- Execution of the story for the games (the novels, keeping most of the authors, handled this much better) was lacking in my opinion, as the strength of Chief was unrealistically diminished, mostly being notable in 5, as well as his willingness to go a.w.o.l. over a chance at meeting Cortana again. Even accounting for his character progression in accordance with the games' theme of John becoming more human slowly rather than a soldier, this was too sudden of a decision for him and this is a major area where 343i choked for me. This was a good chance to cover where Halo : Escalation left off and give the player more than one mission before tying it to Cortana so quickly and cheaply, allowing us to see a gradual progression and character development where Chief finally reaches the point where he is truly willing to risk everything to see Cortana. I don't want to spend too long on this section, but I could say a lot more. 343i's decisions with how to treat Chief are not unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. And I'm only willing to be this reasonable considering I've read all the novels/short stories/etc up to this point, and understand what they're aiming for. The average person who only played the games has a right to be confused af.

- Multiplayer. Halo 4 with the CoD loadouts, the restrictions of not being able to see how many people are online, map design, new features and new ways to access old features, removal of old community modes, and tweaking of key modes such as zombies really hurt the multiplayer experience that was present in older Bungie titles, not just Reach. Halo 5, unfortunately, started stripping away the soul of multiplayer Halo even more with it's further reduction of zombies, somehow worse map design, and addition of new movement options. I realize they're not for everybody, and they're not for me. They add options for people to stall in a lot of scenarios, particularly 1v1s, which have already been diminishing since 4, and wait for help to arrive.
