Hockey allows players to just stop the game and start punching the other team, its not the best place to model for a ruleset.

(I know there is a time penalty but that is laughable, I cant take it seriously it treats the game like a real sport with real rules)

Alright, if you can explain this then I'll admit you win the argument.

It is possible for a soccer game to be decided by a penalty kick. Near the very end of the game or in the last seconds, someone might get a red card or whatever and the other team would get a penalty kick. That penalty kick, if made, would decide the game.

The same thing is true in soccer with a field goal. During the last seconds of a game, a team could make a field goal and win the game The only difference is that a field goal is a regular way to score during a football game, but the game could still be decided by a field goal.

However, if someone says a game is decided by penalty kicks or by field goals, they specifically mean that a game is decided by a separate challenge where whichever team makes the most penalty kicks (or field goals) wins the game. This method is common during soccer games.

Yeah, but it is better at this world cup. Today Brazil scored after 90 minutes, celebrated, and game went on almost two minutes after the "official" amount of stoppage time to make up for it.

Because the highlight reels are one of the best parts. I get what you guys are saying which is why I agree they aren't done in playoffs and such but for regulation games fuck that. Give me those reels anyday. Still get a point for losing in OT anyways.

I love how easily Americans can get under foreigners skins by acting ignorant and insulting soccer. Funny stuff.

There are reasons to support a draw in the group stage but I can easily see why Americans would be baffled by the thought of a tie.
