And it'll only run at 120C!

Found the Intel fanboy. The 2700X doesn't run hot.

who are these targeted for, can't be gamers cause they don't get extra benefit out of that many cores

It's kind of funny considering Intel demoed a 28 core processor at 5 GHz in order counter this 32 core Threadripper, claiming it would be for sale later this year, and it ran so hot they required a one horsepower chiller. They "forgot" to tell everybody that it was overclocked. That processor was likely drawing over four times more power than the AMD FX 9590 everybody laughed at years ago.

The AMD Threadripper demo used a large air cooler instead.

Intel has been having this problem since abandoning solder in favor of shit TIM after Sandy Bridge. It also wasn't long ago they released a 73W stock cooler for a "65W TDP" processor that can hit nearly 120W under some loads. A shame AMD also used TIM instead of solder for its newer APUs.

Content creators and other professional applications.

It's meaningless to the average consumer right now, it's more exciting for the future than anything because this has started a core race, which will eventually keep trickling down into the mainstream and once it does games and other things will start using more highly threaded tech.

The above post is literally and objectively right.

My MATLAB scripts would run at blazing speeds with a CPU like this

Is this what people buy to farm bitcoin, or is that something else?

I think most of the miners without an ASIC moved on to mining other currencies with GPUs instead. For most miners, I do not believe a processor like this would make any sense at all.

Ryzen is performing 15% or so slower in pure gaming (The difference is typically a negligible 10-15fps tops, and even then it depends on the game itself) than the 8700K but around 25% faster in everything else (streaming, etc.) the multithreading really helps in, well, multitasking. This is what I've determined watching plenty of benchmarking videos on the subject.

GPUs are exorbitantly high because of mining but the prices have been steadily dropping since the crypto crash in January.

Oh and games won't likely ever benefit from something like 32 cores, due to their nature.

That's cool. I'd love to see AMD not need a surgical intervention to extricate themselves from their own asses. Maybe a bit of confidence here on the high end operator spectrum will get them back in the game. I'd love to run an AMD build again someday, It'd be just like old times.
