I like all kinds of racing game as long as they are good. They range from GTA5 to Gran Turismo 4 to Forza Horizon 3 to Burnout 2 to Burnout Paradise to Crash Team Racing to SNES Mario Kart.

6/10

Not bad but there are more genres I like better, and it's hard for a racing game to stick out to me.

Incredibly boring genre. I think last time I had any fun with any racing game. Was during PS1 era or something, when I played Gran Turismo 1 or 2 (don't remember anymore).

But to be honest, I haven't really tried too many since then either. Just don't appeal to me a whole lot, to drive in circles and such for hours :).

Anyway. Hm... 3/10. At least I don't remember them downright pissing me off, like platformers. Which, I stopped playing entirely back in late 90s due to that :).

Seems like I just gotta be pixel-perfect to win a race in most of these games. There are very few racing games that I enjoy like OutRun (which I enjoy for the different routes and music), but that's about it.

Racing games always managed to find ways to become innovative, unlike most JRPG's...
So I'll give racing games a 10.

8/10, although I would enjoy them more if I had the time. I do enjoy arcade drifting style games like Initial D more though.

This. And this gen has been sorely missing games like that.

I breathe racing games! One of the first was Stunts, where I probably spent just as much time driving as I did create tracks. Never had a decent computer or a modern console until the late 90's, whereupon I was introduced to such greats as Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, WipeOut, Carmageddon, TOCA Touring Cars, and Colin McRae Rally. I prefer simulation over arcade; however, I've never been able to get into kart racers. The closest that I can think of is kart racing in Gran Turismo and TOCA Race Driver 3.

Some of my favorite games are racing games, so it pains me to have to give this genre an overall 6/10.

Racing sims like Gran Turismo can be fun but then they go and do something moronic like throw in a 24 hour race just because f*** you for trying to go for 100%. I've no doubt that 24 hour races are real things in the "real world" but let's be real here, calling that the "real world" is a gross misuse of a technicality. It physically takes place in our world but the real real world is full of people who have stuff to do and can't spend 24 hours straight playing a video game. Plus the main appeal is being able to have a garage full of fancy sports cars you could never afford for real, which isn't really my thing, and the fun of the competition is basically nonexistant.

Kart racers, on the other hand, suck because of randomized feedback. I'm talking mushrooms, shells, banana peels, etc. There are a handful of kart racers that keep the feedback reasonable but on the whole, powerups are overpowered as hell and turn the game more into a dice rolling simulator than a racing game. Mario Kart apologists will insist the game only very rarely screws you over but they're lying. Kart games are designed for exactly one thing: to wait until the last lap and drop the player from first place to 200th by giving the CPU's blue shells and triple reds galore. Every. Single. Race.

Now the fun racing games are amazing. They have reasonable feedback (generally with no powerups or reasonable powerups), they prioritize fun over realism and they're amazing games. 10/10 genre if I could count only the ones that aren't deliberately frustrating or unfun.
