I'm wondering why they do this. Are they afraid I might be hacked into their computer and see them from the camera? I have never heard of any software that lets you remote straight into a user's camera. And even if I did have this ability, having the camera covered would do nothing as I would just tell them they have to take it off or they'll be wrote up for breaking a company policy.

I've worked for a couple schools and universities in the IT department and its sad how many laptops come in with the tape. :/

It's all because of that case in Pennsylvania back in 2010. The highschool had access to all of cameras on the laptops distributed by the school system. I think they tried to suspend or write up a student for something they saw them doing in their room.
