If you have enough money you can buy like pre chopped versions of a lot of things. I didn't know it was a thing until I saw it. Like chopped onions packaged in a container. Lol.

I've been doing that lol. I recently discovered a little section in the supermarket that has containers of pre-chopped stuff. I've been buying garlic since I hate mincing it.

This is a good way to spend about 2-3x the amount on vegetables.

You know an easy way to chop onions? Cut it in half from point to point like this onion here:

http://images.wisegeek.com/three-onions-against-white-background.jpg

Then you put it on flat part down on the board and cut off the disc at the root or the opposite end:

http://images.tutorvista.com/content/angiosperm-morphology/onion-bulb.jpeg

Then, assuming you cut off the root, and the exposed front is facing you, you peel the tunic back to just an inch from the back, and then cut lines perpendicular (each cut goes from front to back) to where you peeled the tunic back to. Then once you cut parallel lines to the back, each cut will drop perfectly diced onions pieces. And even better, you can store the onion with the perpendicular slices as is and only cut parallel to get some diced onions when you need them. It's a fantastic way prepping onions when you need them diced.

it does work, i think i done it with tomatoes back then in the boonies. i bought alot of tomatoes but the onions really sucked (they got this black rot that grows) on the vegetable i have to toss those ones out. cant remember the price of yellow onions but it was cheap.

You just have to store anything wet properly or it'll get soggy in a few days.

cutting vegetables is relaxing

pre-chopped versions of food have decreased intensity of flavor and lose a lot of their nutrients by the time they reach your plate

not to mention they're like 2x more expensive than normal because that's extra processing

I do this. With practice you can take a whole onion apart in under two minutes. Not even enough time to tear up.

If your getting rot on your vegetables after 1 week, then maybe it would be a decent idea to wash them with water and vinegar. I find this keeps it fresh for at least a week longer.

i'm going to have to make a note of this just in case i don't use up a tomato in 3 days or less.
think i still have some white vinegar which i use to kill those fly's.

Just be careful and do your research. Not every vegetable is compatible with vinegar.

a lot of that tear stuff is actually caused by cutting up the disc down near the root so if you manage to take it off correctly (or just leave it on and don't cut it, makes a nice handle) it lesses the tears a lot
