Humans are often characterized as being an unpredictable, cunning, unusually resourceful, surprisingly formidable species in sci-fi settings

I really feel like that is really cool and I hope it turns out to be true once we establish contact with aliens

In Star Trek they only really show the best human traits and use the aliens to show why our negative traits are bad. The conflict of humans vs aliens is just a metaphor for our fight to overcome those negative traits in ourselves.
