Let's say that you are a police officer, and you have set up a sting to catch prostitutes. You have succeeded and just arrested several prostitutes. However, one customer begs you not to arrest him. He explains to you (and is able to verify) that he has been diagnosed with cancer, is terminally ill, and has one month left to live. He is an incel and just wants to experience what sex is like before he dies. What would you do in this situation? Would you let him die in jail, or would you pretend you never encountered him and let him run away?

Unless children or trafficking were involved, wouldnt arrest a perfectly healthy one for that, tbh

I seen an episode of cops when they knew exactly what was going on with a prostitute and disabled man and literally told the dude to make sure he wore protection. Then gave him a ride to where they said they were going to eat

I like to feel like I'd be a decent cop where common sense would prevail in a situation like this

It really shouldn't be illegal tbh, as long as it's her choice. Working corners for a pimp to take all the money for himself however...

This is the most bullshit story I ever heard in my life and if I wasn't going to arrest him before I'd definitely arrest him now.

Yeah.

Its the police officers job to enforce the law. If youre unhappy with a particular law or you feel as though there should be carve outs for specific elements then write your congressman a letter or vote for people that share your ideals.

The law applies to everybody but the law is also meant to be applied by human beings.

That's why there is such a thing as prosecutorial discretion.

This is an example of a situation where the prosecutor should use his discretion not to press charges.

Another example would be a man who beats up someone who raped his daughter. It's technically illegal and he will probably get arrested. But the prosecutor should really consider using his discretion depending on the circumstances.

It should be stopped when it's happening in public mostly out of concern for the safety of all parties, but not through arrests.

For those of you who are saying don't arrest him, at what point would his excuse not be enough justification to let him go?

With how cops have to wear body cams I doubt many officers will ignore or let someone break the law when they are on camera, it could cost them their career.

there was that one Olympic coach that a guy wanted 5 minutes with. kinda wish the guy got to him i doubt that coach would last that long (he got stopped by police officers and the attorney) then handcuffed.
