Yeah. I remember when smoking was allowed in restaurants. That was always the question right after how many in the party, smoking or non smoking.
In fact a lot of restaurants from that earlier era were built with this in mind so if you go into an older one they usually have a distinct "L" shape to the floor layout and the shorter section use to always be the smoking section.
Yes it was nasty. The smoke was always in the air and diffused the light inside. And the smell of whatever you ordered was always mixed with the scent of smoke.

I remember when you didn't have to wear a seatbelt too. It was a secondary offense but not something that was illegal on it's own. So you couldn't be pulled over specifically for it.
