Current Events > So, my dad has parkinson's and my parents don't know it yet >_>

We're going to go monday morning for the MRI and other scans.

My dad can barely walk anymore (like, maybe a few meters with the help of a walker), his speech is slurred and his handwriting got so bad that it's almost impossible to read anything he writes. His posture is all curved and to the side. My parents are convinced that this is just a temporary problem and that it can be solved by medications and physiotherapy. They think it's perhaps an infection or something that can be treated with antibiotics.

The doctor told me when my parents were in the other room that we have to expect my dad to be bedridden eventually because it's not getting better and there isn't much to be done. For him it's clear that it's parkinson's.

This morning my mom was saying to my dad something like "stay strong, we found a good doctor, he'll find a way to solve this." I mean, what can I say?

I just think I'm not gonna say anything and just let the doctor talk to them once we have the scan results. I suppose when that happens they're not going to believe it and want to find another doctor for a second opinion. Whatever >_>

One thing about parkinsons is that for some reason people tend to have days where they move much better. Like, there are days where my dad can barely stand on his own and others were he can walk almost right (on those good days he even makes the point of raising his cane to show he doesn't need the cane for 2-3 steps... kind of like a child bragging that he can ride his bicycle without the handles for a few seconds). I suppose this gives some people false hope, like "hey, he's getting better! this means he's going to keep getting better!"

My mom already lost (central) vision in one eye to macular degeneration and the other eye is not looking good. Plus, she has diabetes. They're both losing their independence fast >_>

Being a single child really sucks sometimes. I mean how can I live my life and get married when my parents need me for everything?

Gah.

I guess I'm kind of numb right now. I was pretty depressed already about my mom's condition, so I think my brain is just kind of blocking my emotions to protect itself right now. I suppose part of me is just fighting hard to try not to feel anything.

They're both 75. I'm 34.
