As for detention centers and separating families, isn't that what all prisons are? Why is illegal immigration the only crime when you have a problem with these things? Do you feel equally sorry for the guy who commits tax fraud?

Detention centers aren't prisons, they're holding facilities.
Are they not suppose to hold the illegal kids? Just pick up the parents and leave the kids to starve or something?

Also, in a way, to answer your question, yes. The state often does take the kids when the parents commit a crime. Until a proper guardian can be sorted out.

The saving grace is that, even if our current administration has the monstrous will to go to those ends (and I highly doubt they're that far gone), they lack even a shred of the competence the Nazis had to follow through with it.

we have things in place to prevent stuff like that from happening. the US government is set up differently than 1930's Germany was. there is no way a holocaust would happen in modern america, with the checks and balances, and the culture we have of tolerance. most Americans aren't racist and would never allow that. if it came to it , there would be a civil war to stop it

Much of what has been happening lately is a Deja Vu for anyone who knows history.

We're separating families and hiding behind the law to justify it (morality and legality are not the same). Our leader is buddying up to dictators and alienating our allies. And credit is being given to Trump for revitalizing our economy. Then there's the whole Israel thing which threatens to pull us into war by way of allegiances (as in WWI).

Yeah, I don't like where this is all headed.
