It's basically anti-keynesianism. Unlike the govt, they realize that they do have a finite point in their future where they will cease to exist once their bubble (spam bots and nazis) bursts. So they are taking a small hit now to ensure their extended existence.

It's honestly surprising/impressive that they are doing this at all. It just goes to show how different the pressures are on private companies, even near-monopolies who are technically bigger than most country governments.

The notion that all non-left people are being persecuted and banned from social media (despite being so incredibly common like an ant infestation) is the idea that spontaneously built up overnight during Trump's campaign, because that is literally the basis of Trump's campaign and the rise of nationalism.
