Roughly 700 million vs about 655 Million. Granted Infinity War is still in theaters but concenus tends to be there isnt enough gas in the tank to pass Black Panther.

Really goes to show how starved the African American community was for a big screen superhero(that was the star and in a actually a good movie to boot)

Plus the quality of the film, the power of word of mouth. His reception from civil war and the trailers for Infinity war showing Wakanda prominently probably helped a lot too.

yeah...Idk if Hotel Artemis is even supposed to be good but the fact that people let an original IP (with a solid cast) bomb while flocking to a reboot of a reboot is pretty sad. People complain Hollywood is out of ideas, but can you really blame them when sequels and reboots are the only things that bring in money?

Black dollars can go a long way. Even on a terrible movie like A Madea Halloween, Tyler Perry made over $70 million. I doubt most of his audience watching was White, since Tyler targets a certain portion of Black Audiences to watch his films. Yet he's able to churn out films whenever and make millions.

Black Panther galvanized quite a bit of the community overall to see it at least once (I know Black people who've seen it more than two times).

anyway, at around the same point that each movie has been out, IW has made more domestically

like, after 45 days, IW has made almost 655 mil, while BP has made about 650

Yeah. But Black Panther had crazy long legs. It was still making a few million or so a week when Infinity war hit theaters and its still snowing at a decent chunk of theaters.

Infinity War is tuckering out a little quicker. It was more front loaded in comparison.

Infinity War released with more competition. If they didn't move the Infinity War release date up it would of probably done even worse.

a bunch of people who didn't even care or know that BP is in Infinity War. they only want to see his solo movies. they were new to the MCU, came and left after watching Black Panther. they have no interest in the wider marvel universe. they aren't loyal fans and it would be a mistake for disney to target them in the future.

BP came out in February with absolutely nothing to compete with

IW had Deadpool, Solo, and soon will have Jurassic World and Incredibles 2

Calling it "crazy" might be overstating it, but considering IW was the movie that the whole MCU spent a decade building up to, I would say it is a little startling that BP did better, despite the lack of competition it had going against it.

Its not terribly surprising.

Black Panther faced no competition for months on end.

It drew in the non comic book movie fan African American demographic to threatres. People whose likely first MCU movie is Black Panther. And the movie encouraged newcomers with a relatively unconnected feel to the MCU that didn't require watching the other 17 films.

Infinity War is a once in a generation type movie for comic book fans, but it's not drawing in newcomers to the MCU. It was for the fans, not to draw in new audiences. You even saw this with the professional reviews saying the movie had too many heroes and was confusing. Movie wasn't made for them.

Yeah. You need a really strong case to say that. Its essentially a two parter serving as the climax of what nearly 20 films have built towards for a decade,

You come in having seen several of the previous films if not most or all of them or you shut your mouth when it comes to reviewing I say.

Imagine watching Return of the Jedi but not having seen the previous too or even being familiar with them in the slightest. No shit its gonna be confusing and have a lot of moments fall flat.

This reminds of how stupid some people are, even "professionals". The movie does a good job introducing the important things you need to know.

What is funny is a decent chunk of the competition is Disney themselves. It was real dumb to put Solo between Infinity war and Incredibles 2 What with ant man and the wasp being three weeks incredibles. Plus other studios also had/have Deadpool 2, Jurassic world, Oceans 8 etc. nearby.

Plenty of films either at the same time or nearby that are gonna make people think I just saw Last Jedi a few months ago. Do I really want to see Star Wars again when I can see infinity War, Incredibles 2, Deadpool 2, or Jurassic world with that money instead?.

Solo would have done a lot better domestically if it had a better and later release date. Decrease franchise fatigue a bit, less competition and more time for the rabid overly dramatic hate for last Jedi to calm down. I dunno about internationally.

Black Panther was good, but the non-waterfall fights were terrible bad CGI fests. Infinity War obviously had CGI fights but they were cool and looked good. (I'm pretty sure all the CGI focus went to IW since they were filmed at the same time)

No they didn't, the Battle of Wakanda was a poorly conceived CGI fest with no sense of necessity.
