I think about this one all the time. It's easily Tarantino's worst film and, it wasn't very good altogether. For the longest time I thought he never directed a bad movie then I saw this. Pacing has never been his strong suit, but man, it really shows with this one.

I will say, it is an interesting approach to a slasher film and the driving scenes are cool, the cars themselves that they used were awesome, but everything else about the movie was just lackluster.

I agree. It took so long to get going that I didn't really care when it started to ramp up. I know Tarantino is in love with dialogue but this needed a good edit.

At least it contained a lapdance.

Exactly! Remember the opening prologue to Scream with Drew Barrymore? Imagine if that was almost an hour long and made up half of the movie and that's basically how the first act of this movie was. A lot of that bar sequence could have absolutely been cut out.

Too bad it's only your opinion. Stuntman Mike was awesome. The only issue was the way he dies. Everything else was fine(though I question what happened to that one girl). In fact, the scene on the car hood was nail-biting. My guess is you don't understand QT. I mean look at movies like dogs or pulp fiction. There wasn't a lot of action. The entertainment was in the character building and just that realism that takes place such as talking about a burger. Even if you didn't like his style mixed with horror, he clearly has done worst unless you only know RD, PF, KB, DP and IB

I didn't mind it. That said the only thing I really remember about it is Russell's awesome "WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THISSSSS!?!"

Well I'll argue since I believe it is one of the best films that I've seen a lot of hate for.

The first act is great, builds tension throughout, and Kurt+the main chick(can't remember her name) do an excellent job establishing the events that unfold. The scene outside of the bar is classic Tarantino, great writing and great acting that builds tension, but also downing the tension through a less than serious scene(lap dance).

Stuntman Mike is a interesting and unique killer. Ex stuntman turned killer is an awesome premise and the build up to Mike is excellent in the first half.

I'm actually have the opposite opinion as other people. Imo the first half is far superior than the second, and classic Tarintino.

The 2nd half is still good, and there is depth with the conversations the women have. The car chase scene is also excellent with an awesome ending.

So yeah great movie, and should be considered a classic through the eyes of most horror movie or Tarantino fans

Too bad it's only your opinion. Stuntman Mike was awesome.

I love Kurt Russell, but man, Stuntman Mike was stupid. Aside from his killer gimmick of sending himself to the hospital for months, he attempts to kill the girls at the end and when he got the perfect opportunity to finish them off, he gets out of his car and is like "Woo-wee, that was fun!"
What the fuck? Using Scream as an example again, that's like Ghost Face trapping Neve Campbell in a corner then unveiling himself and going "Boy, that was fun!"

And then he's genuinely surprised when they try to come back and and kill him. He pulls a "It was just a prank!" So dumb.

The only issue was the way he dies. Everything else was fine(though I question what happened to that one girl).

All the characters weren't great. They all seem to have two personalities and it was pretty shitty how they ditched their friend (and lied about her being a porn star) just to go for a joy ride.

My guess is you don't understand QT.

I dick ride every other movie he's directed but I don't like this one film, so that means I don't understand him. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

I mean look at movies like dogs or pulp fiction. There wasn't a lot of action. The entertainment was in the character building and just that realism that takes place such as talking about a burger.

The problem wasn't the lack of action, though more of it would have helped here. It's that there is so much unnecessary stuff that could absolutely be cut from the film to help it flow better. And the character building here was so much more weak/non-existent compared to his other films. Didn't care about anyone here at all. Tarantino can make even the most vile character appealing and likable in some way but he clearly wasn't on the top of his game.

I've watched all his films (that he's directed) and yeah, of the ones he's directed DP is absolutely the worst of the bunch. I'm not going to say that his style doesn't work with horror but it sure as hell didn't work here.

Yeah, but I mean, that's like all his movies. Look at pulp fiction (I use that because it's his biggest film), most of everything in the movie can be cut. But then you would have like a movie that's 30 minutes long. That's just the way QT has always been. He makes it work. Dunno what you saw different in death proof.

Another thing QT does is make his characters realistic. Look at other movies where everybody is a trope. QT doesn't do that. He presents characters that are actually realistic and you can judge them on who they are. Maybe this is what you don't actually like because the movie itself is well made but I'd understand not liking it because you don't have a character to follow. Not sure what you mean about two personalities unless you mean the one girl who is all quite being all let's kill him later I guess.

Sounds in line with something an adrenaline junkie would say. My only issue was him acting like a bitch at the end when he lost. That was the only differential in character. But I mean, not sure what movie doesn't have a serial killer that doesn't do stupid things. Wanna start calling bond villains stupid next? How about Myers for not using a gun?

Good tastes! You know, another thing I think TC is missing is that this was part of a grind house set. If he knows the genre, he might see the homages being paid. The whole thing was absolutely well done.

I saw really bad pacing (worse than usual with his films) and I feel like he could have/should have wrote around that better than what we got.

Another thing QT does is make his characters realistic.

Which he failed to do here.

Those other characters are at least consist with their motives. Stuntman Mike, however, went from "Die, Bitch" to "Yo, that was fun guys!" So, yeah. They're stupid in their own way that it at least make sense. Stuntman Mike just took an extra level in stupid.

For real. I like Robert Rodriguez but never would I have thought that he'd make the better movie in a double feature between him and Tarantino.

Death Race is awesome. Gets way more hate than it deserves. It's a pretty niche film, so it's not for everyone, but calling it straight up bad is silly.

It's an homage to films that had fast cars and awesome car chases such as Vanishing Point (mentioned in Death Race), Bulitt, and Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. It's a slow burn, but a serial killer using a car as his weapon is pretty cool.

And I think it's bad because it's burn is too slow and that could have easily been avoided with some editing and maybe more car stuff.

In this 2 hour movie that's a homage to films that had fast cars and awesome car chases such as Vanishing Point there's only 30 or so minutes of cool car shit overall.
