The Arizona Court of Appeals ruled on Thursday that Brush & Nib Studio in Phoenix must serve gay couples in response to a lawsuit brought by Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski, the studios owners, who had not been asked to provide services by any gay couples, but were trying to preemptively assert their right not to do so.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports: Filed in 2016, the suit alleged that the non-discrimination order would force them to provide services would violate their freedoms of speech and conflict with their belief that marriage is between one man and one woman. Duka and Koski had attempted to override a city ordinance that protects LGBT people from discrimination. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the couple by anti-LGBT litigation group Alliance Defending Freedom.

The court used this weeks Masterpiece Cakeshop decision to reject the studios argument.

It did not dilute anti-LGBTQ discrimination protections and in fact reaffirmed their importance. With regard to race, sex, sexual orientation or any other protected trait, a business can decide what products it sellsbut not to whom. Todays Arizona appeals court decision correctly relied upon Masterpiece Cakeshop to ensure that businesses understand that they cannot turn people away from the products or services they provide because of who they are or take actions equivalent to hanging a no gays allowed sign in the window.

On the other hand, where does "no shirt no shoes no service" or "we don't accept cash that came out of your sweaty bra" fit in to this?

Because the only thing more impressive than "gay couple goes out of their way to be offended" is the persecution complex of many Christians.

Still, this allows for some crazy loopholing, no? As in, "invitations that feature two male (or two female) names is not a product we offer?" or "Everyone single one of our products feature a MAN AND A WOMAN on the front of them?"

You can refuse service, but only on the basis of reasonable justification (illegal, disrupts busniess, customers on the premises and not doing business, etc.). No shirt-no shoes is usually because of health codes, never heard of the sweaty bra one.

As I've said every time this topic comes out; you can reject the design, just not the customer unless they're causing some kind of trouble.

I guess I'm just taking the thought processes to the extremes. If I'm walking in to your place with moist cash then I must "believe" it's ok just like they must think a gay couple is unhealthy and gross.

Sorry, sometimes I devil's advocate too hard.
