At my current job, I have a new coworker who started working in May. She's one of those lazy, self-centered, "it's all about me" types. The thing I hate most about her is that she clocks in on time every morning but then spends 15 minutes in the bathroom doing god knows what. So she's not late because she comes in before 9:30, but we're lucky to get any productivity out of her before 9:45. I assume she's taking a shit or putting on makeup during that time. Not sure why she couldn't do this at home before coming to work. She does this every day, and I'm guessing she's trying to use the excuse that she technically showed up to work on time even if she didn't do anything the first few minutes.

Naturally, my coworkers and I are pretty sick of her. I've thought about reporting her to the supervisor, but 1. I'm hoping her luck will run out and karma will catch up to her, 2. I don't want to be the one who's making a complaint about other people, and 3. I'm sure the supervisors have already figured out that she's a useless employee. So I'm considering just staying silent and waiting for her to get fired on her own. But is what she's doing actually wrong? Like if someone were to show up to work on time but then immediately took a "break" to brush their teeth and eat breakfast, would that count as being late?

As long you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, why stress over it? She'll get herself in trouble, you just do you.

I don't know about her, but I usually have to shit within 30 minutes of getting to work, after shitting first thing when I wake up every night. I don't know if my coworkers have a problem with it, but if I have to shit, I have to shit.

Edit: I'm about to go shit right now for the third time tonight, and I've only been up since 9. Like I really have to shit.

15 minutes is a bit long and i can get why it'd annoy you, but I get running to the bathroom real quick, and maybe even do a mirror-check/comb your hair real quick, and I absolutely clock in first.

Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes though, 10 at the absolute most for women to take care of their stuff if they need, but even then that wouldn't be a daily thing.

Pretty much that. If she's blocking you from doing your job because she isn't doing hers, it's a problem. Otherwise it's not really your business. I mean you can feel pissy about it, I probably would, but you're gonna look like a huge dweeb if you bring it up.

I thought maybe you were talking about taking a few mins to pee or on the rare occasion a painful shit hits you outta nowhere. In your situation I would say it's not professional or acceptable. In your line of work does it affect you? In the medical field like myself I'd be pissed and report her after a few times. My problem more is people that come into work to smoke within the first hour.

At my store youre late if you arent on the floor and ready to go (full uniform etc) when your shift starts. Shed be getting written up for that shit after the first couple days.

But if this has been going on for awhile and nothing has been done yet then management probably just doesnt care. So look forward to picking up the slack until she leaves.

I think it's okay in some situations. In my defence, I drive an hour to and from work everyday and while I try to get everything out before I leave, sometimes it hits me when I get to work.

The woman in your op though I think is just trying to get out of as much work as possible.

What's really unprofessional is getting up a co-worker's ass for silly reasons. The concept of "being late to work" is fucking stupid and pointless for most office work. This isn't the days of factory work where X time directly translated to Y widgets being produced.

I would anticipate about when she's about to come in, and right before then, take a massive shit in that bathroom and don't flush. The smell will drive her out faster.

My work computer takes a few minutes to fully boot up so Ill usually come in, hit the power button, and then go take a piss. But that takes 1-2 minutes and b/c of the computer thing, doesnt even matter. But also our timing system is more of an honor code thing anyway, although it is important to keep track of what youre doing.

I usually use the bathroom a few times right after I get to work. I don't see anything wrong with this but I'm a hard worker so people don't care

I drink a lot of water and can't just get up and go in the middle of my job, so it's not really a big deal

If it is a once in a great while thing fine, but if this is a daily occurrence, it is time theft. When you clock in, you are suppose to be ready to work, not take an extra 15 minutes doing whatever. The responsible thing to do is either go to the bathroom at home or use the bathroom before clocking in for the day. I work in retail so I always expect the people who I supervise to be on the clock in their assigned area within 5 minutes of their scheduled start time. There was one person that would always clock back in when done with lunch and immediately use the bathroom before going back up front. When it became clear to me that it was a pattern and not just a one-of instance, I got with management and they put a stop to it.
