http://fortune.com/2018/05/05/california-fifth-biggest-economy-passes-united-kingdom/
If the state with its 39.5 million people was an independent country, it would have the fifth largest economy in the world, according to new federal figured released on Friday just surpassing the United Kingdom, which has a population of 65.6 million.

Californias economy of $2.7 trillion sits behind the United States, China, Japan and Germany. Californias large economy is attributed to its thriving tech sector and Hollywood, according to the Associated Press. It has 12% of the U.S. population, but has contributed 16% of total job growth between 2012 and 2017. Californias gross domestic product also went up by $127 billion from 2016 to 2017, helping to give it a push to reach the fifth spot.

Wow.

You don't have to be rich to live in Cali. Urban areas are expensive, sure, but there are a lot of homes outside of that that aren't ridiculously priced.

I mean, that is good advice. As someone who moved 9 hours away from the GTA last year, everything is nicer here. Way less people, and the cost of buying a house is less than the downpayment of an average Toronto house.

I never got why people want to live in such crowded cities anyway

While the first two are valid points, there are quite a few people here who aren't liberal in the sense that's commonly thrown around. Admittedly the Republicans here tend to be more liberal than those in Oklahoma, but there are pockets of conservatives and moderates all over.

Places with nice climate will often have large homeless populations. Kind of hard to be homeless when frostbite will get you.

California is easily the best state if you have money. And arguably if you're middle class as long as you're not living in downtown San Francisco / San Jose / Los Angeles / Santa Monica / etc.

My uncle who is middle class had to have an emergency operation on his stomach and the state covered the entire bill when his basic insurance from work wasn't enough. So they seem to have solid social programs.

The roads are fantastic, the weather is amazing, there are so many beautiful women all over the place, there's so much to do. So much variety in the terrain across SoCal / NorCal and everything in-between. Some of our most prized companies live there.

All around a top-tier place to live.

I've heard that before. Same with TX I believe.

The one thing I don't like is the fact that if you want acreage here, it won't happen unless you move into the boonies.

Seems like you can be somewhat near civilization and get a couple acres in a place like Texas...but I could be wrong on that. I just know from looking at listings in the area it seems to be a thing
