The Zero games were among the best GBA games. I only like Battle Network more on that system. I love the X series too and we could have used more ZX games.

Yeah I had a lot of fun with the Zero series. The increase of story depth and the fact that the final boss wasn't the same character at the end every time was really fresh to me. It ended up being the only Mega Man series with a definite ending to it as well and I'm happy with that. ZX Advent leaves off on a cliff-hanger, so does Legends 2, Classic and X don't really end but they also don't have sequel-bait endings in their last games, so...

X has the highest high points but the lowest low points. And really even at the low points I still have fun with it. It's just how the Mega Man formula is built. You can't make a Mega Man game that is absolutely no fun from start to finish if you try.

Zero and ZX were a lot more consistent.

ZX is one of my favorite Mega Man games. I love the colors, the music, the overall concept, swimming with LX, dash airdash hover with HX, the super high rate of fire with PX, being able to mostly ignore FX, unlocking X and OX, the story, the characters, talking to all the townspeople, etc etc.

My only gripe with the Zero series was that it required you to have a high rank to get the boss skills. For someone like me who likes to get everything it makes you play like a perfectionist to the point where it stops being fun.

When I'm not trying to get everything the games are a lot more fun since I'm not worried about rank.

As for ZX I vastly prefer the first game. Advent was alright but it lacked a lot of the charm of the first. The level design and soundtrack were both noticeably more bland imo

That being said the collection on ds is usually cheap and i suggest getting it.

I actually think the Zero games have the best plot of any MM subseries. I don't really understand Zero feeling nerfed. He's arguably more powerful than he was in the X series.

Funny enough I think I read something in one of the official art books that Zero's redesign was closer to how Inafune originally imagined him, but due to snes limitations they had to go with the bulkier original design. I believe that was from Inafune's note in the X Complete Works book, but I'd have to recheck. I'm sure I read that somewhere
